A Power question worth two Olympic gold medals ?? ?? How also to shift the mindset from competition to shared success. One of my top 5 favourite athletic moments occurred at Tokyo 2021, still officially known as Tokyo 2020 (Olympic Games). During the high jump final of Tokyo 2020, Mutaz Essa Barshim from Qatar and Gianmarco Tamberi from Italy ended up with identical records. Both cleared 2.37 meters without any failed attempts, until the bar was raised to 2.39 meters, which both missed. Faced with the possibility of a jump-off to determine the winner, a moment of magic unfolded. ? Instead of proceeding with a jump-off, Barshim made a powerful question to the judges: ?“Can we have two golds?” ? Those five words, spoken at precisely the right time, made history. “Can We Have Two Golds?” ? The officials agreed, as the rules permit shared medals if the athletes agree. I can still vividly recall the pure joy from both athletes. Especially Tamberi's disbelief at what had just happened as he ran across the stadium. This led to the first tie for an Olympic high jump gold medal in over a century. It was a demonstration of how a single question can unveil possibilities previously unseen. The art of asking powerful questions is crucial in business and life, as it can unveil hidden insights, foster innovation, and build deeper relationships.
