Passenger numbers are soaring at airports across the Great South West, thanks to expanded routes at Exeter Airport and Bournemouth Airport, with Cornwall Airport Newquay also seeing a significant increase in passengers in the past year. The growth highlights the South West’s growing importance as a hub for both tourism and business. Improved connectivity can boost economic opportunities, attract investment, make the region even more attractive for visitors and businesses, and is a cornerstone of our vision for an inclusive and accessible region. The Great South West is a major player in the UK’s clean energy future, with the potential to deliver ￡10bn in GVA and create 175,000 jobs through major clean energy projects. Launched at an event in Westminster sponsored by Agratas, our Energy Prospectus highlights major areas of clean energy opportunities in the South West, from floating offshore wind and nuclear, to battery production and the UK’s largest gigafactory at Agratas in Somerset. Our Critical Minerals & Technology Deep Dive Working Session brought together our Board members, national industry leaders, policy makers and academics to help shape the strategic opportunity for the industry in the Great South West. Our region has the most valuable georesources in the UK, including: ?? Critical mineral exploration and extraction in Devon and Cornwall ?? Tungsten West plc, the third largest tungsten deposit in the world, critical to ?industries such as automotive, energy and manufacturing ?? Ball clays from Dorset supporting the ceramic industry ?? Essential minerals from Devon, Somerset and Cornwall supporting London construction and national infrastructure such as ports and transport ?? Geothermal energy from Cornwall, Devon and Dorset contributing to the decarbonisation of residential and industrial settings These assets are critical to the Government’s ambitions for growth and clean energy, and the aspirations recently set out in its Industrial Strategy Green Paper.
