At just 10 years old, this inspiring young paramedic-in-training is teaching adults and children alike how to save lives through CPR and defibrillator training. He not only teaches the mechanics of CPR but also emphasizes key details, like checking a patient’s airway for obstructions before starting chest compressions. His motto? “If I can save a life, then you can.” And people are listening! His mother, @Danielle Dawsoncouldn’t be prouder, watching Jack’s confidence grow as he helps his community. He’s also taken to social media, sharing tutorials on his Mini Medic YouTube and TikTok channels for those who can’t attend in person. His dedication has earned him a spot as a finalist in the Children of Courage Birmingham Awards—a well-deserved recognition for a young hero in the making! Jack’s ultimate dream? Becoming a full-fledged paramedic, and with his determination, there’s no doubt he’ll get there. Keep saving lives, Mini Medic! My kids are now officially citizens of the USA ???? When we came home from school, we told them there was a big surprise waiting. We opened the packages and had some cake. For me, the kids becoming American citizens was an important milestone. It meant we could freely travel to and from the USA. It also meant the kids could have more opportunity as they get older to live in the states if they wish. It was also important for me to share this part of myself with them. They are 50/50 Danish and American. I always thought this moment would be a moment of overhwhelming pride. Maybe it will be over time. I have to admit that in this political climate and living in Europe right now, it's a bit difficult to come up with reasons for why the kids should feel so honored and lucky to be Americans. I am still proud to be an American. And I have hope that the country, democracy and the "grand experiment" of the USA will ultimately prevail. "America you great unfinished symphony..." ???? Today though, getting my kid's citizenship feels a little more like a transaction; a move towards more options for the future. All of the feelings that normally hit me on the 4th of July or when I hear a good Star-Spangled Banner play before a football game... are hard to feel right now. We are in the process of planning our trip back to the USA for this summer and I think it will be an extra-important experience for us as a family. Mostly to see that the USA is still filled with people we love and sane people with the biggest hearts. That's the America I know... that's the one I want my kids to know, too. ?? ?? ??

  • Matthew Bennett and his team from Bournemouth University have made a groundbreaking discovery at White Sands National Park in New Mexico, revealing that humans were using wooden sledges more than 20,000 years ago—thousands of years before the invention of the wheel! This incredible find marks the earliest known form of human transportation. The archaeologists uncovered fossilized drag marks alongside ancient human footprints, suggesting the use of makeshift carts with wooden poles. These primitive sledges, resembling the "travois" used by indigenous people of North America, provide the first concrete evidence of how early humans moved heavy and bulky loads during their migrations. Until now, the oldest known depictions of transport were cave art dating back around 10,000 years, showing animals pulling heavy loads. This discovery, published in the journal Quaternary Science Advances, pushes that timeline back by more than 10,000 years, offering fascinating insights into human ingenuity and adaptability. • Alo Slebir may have just made surfing history! The 24-year-old surfer rode an estimated 108-foot wave—the height of a 10-story building—at the legendary Mavericks surf break in Northern California, potentially setting a new world record for the largest wave ever surfed. Alo’s meticulous preparation paid off. He had been tracking data from buoys in the Pacific Ocean for days, knowing that the monster swells would hit the West Coast just before Christmas. When the moment came, his friend towed him in with a jetski, and Alo found himself hurtling down the near-vertical face of the “giant wall of water” at breakneck speed. Even legendary big-wave surfer Jeff Clark , who has spent 50 years riding Mavericks’ waves and was once named one of the world’s best by Surfer magazine, was stunned by the sight. Jeff’s reaction says it all—when a seasoned pro is gobsmacked, you know it’s something special! The surfing world now eagerly awaits official confirmation of whether Alo’s ride will set a new world record. In the meantime, it’s safe to say that this fearless surfer has cemented his place among the sport’s elite. Great News Summary made with help from ChatGPT. https://lnkd.in/eafiD4jm

  • Benjamin Shindel and his research team at Northwestern University have discovered yet another reason to love tea—its remarkable ability to remove heavy metals from water! Their study revealed that tea leaves, including black, green, oolong, and white varieties, effectively absorb toxic heavy metals like lead and cadmium, making our drinks safer and healthier. The process is simple yet effective. Heavy metal ions stick to the surface of tea leaves, where they remain trapped, ensuring they are not consumed. According to Shindel, the longer you steep your tea, the better it works. In fact, brewing tea overnight, like when making iced tea, can potentially recover nearly all the metal in the water. Finely ground black tea and cellulose tea bags proved especially effective due to their high surface area, offering more space for metal ions to cling onto. It's an innovative and natural solution to a modern problem, making your next cup of tea even more refreshing! Original author Benjamin Shindel .
