Ms Nina Laville, seventh grade Literature and Composition teacher at Great Hearts Northern Oaks shares her thoughts on the many delightful features of Jane Austen's preeminent novel, "Pride and Prejudice": "As much as I love the periodic sentence, abstract nouns, free indirect discourse, and Austen's incisive humor, what remains with me in "Pride and Prejudice" is the insertion of the "I" at the end of the novel. I am reminded in the experience of reading about Lizzy and Darcy that Providence weaves all to its proper end. Marriages grounded in complementary virtue are blessed by this reality! Tenth grade students across the Great Hearts network read "Pride and Prejudice" in their Humane Letters classes, enjoying Austen's witty dialogue and well-developed characters, insights into social status, and universal themes, such as the dangers of quick judgment.
