Our mission is to engage people in Oregon as active stewards of our communities and natural environments.

关于我们

The Gray Family Foundation is founded on the belief that fostering an understanding and appreciation of our natural world is a crucial part of a child’s education. The Gray Family Foundation, a supporting organization of The Oregon Community Foundation, continues the philanthropic legacy of John and Betty Gray by sustaining a permanent organization based on faith in the human spirit and a vision of Oregon as a vibrant, inclusive, and civic-minded society. Our mission is to engage the people of Oregon to become active stewards of our communities and natural environments. Gray Family Foundation recognizes that systemic policies and practices have led to disparities that limit opportunities for certain communities to contribute to and benefit from a healthy, thriving, and sustainable Oregon. To address this requires us to examine, challenge, and change assumptions and practices that may reinforce such inequities. We act to respect and amplify the diverse perspectives, traditions, knowledge, and relationships all people in Oregon bring as active stewards of our communities and natural environments. Our vision is an inclusive, equitable, and diverse state with opportunities for all people living in Oregon to strengthen their connection to place through meaningful experiences.

  • We are thrilled to share that we've grown our team. Estefania Zavala will be joining us as our new Program Associate starting September 23. Estefania has been a well known and valuable member of The Oregon Community Foundation's finance team for the past few years. She is currently studying Environmental Studies at Portland State, with a minor in Geography. She is also working on an additional certificate in Indigenous Traditional Ecological and Cultural Knowledge. Related to her new role, Estefania recently served as Co-Founder and Community Advocate for PDX through a Latinx lens and has served as an Adventure Leader for one of our grantees, #WildDiversity.?We could not be more thrilled to add Estefania's background and experiences to the team!

  • Congratulations to our Executive Director on this honor and recognition for her work in supporting communities in partnership with academics.

  • We are thrilled by the nomination and confirmation of Gray Family Foundation board member, Les Perkins, to Oregon's Public Utility Commission. We know that Les is an incredible advocate for our communities and brings tremendous talent and perspectives to this work. We are lucky to have him serving Oregon in this role!

Oregon Public Utility Commissioner at PUBLIC UTILITY COMMISSION, STATE OF OREGON

I am honored to have been nominated by Governor Kotek and confirmed by the Oregon Senate to fill the open Oregon Public Utility Commission seat. Thank you to everyone who supported me on this journey, I never would have even attempted this move without all the advice, kind words, and advocacy. I will be winding down my work at Farmers Irrigation District, Hood River County Commission, and all the other boards that I serve on over the next month. I look forward to serving all of Oregon in this role. I know this will be a huge challenge but also an amazing opportunity to learn, grow, and serve.

  • Blue Sky Funders Forum was launched as I stepped into the Executive Director role at Gray Family Foundation. I'm incredibly grateful for the support, leadership, connections, and inspiration that Blue Sky provided for Gray Family Foundation and our work over the past 9 years. I look forward to engaging with this incredible network in new ways as I step away from my board role there. #rethinkoutside #environmentaleducation

Executive Director of the Gray Family Foundation at Oregon Community Foundation

This week marked my final board meeting on the Blue Sky Funders Forum board. I have been honored to be a part of building this organization working to grow philanthropy that supports the benefits of stronger connections to nature. I've been inspired by the leadership of Angie Chen and Anupama Joshi during my eight years and am incredibly excited to see where our new Executive Director, Onika Abraham leads the organization as it hits it's 10 year mark in 2024. A big thank you to both Christina James and Berkeley Bryant who's contributions have helped make Blue Sky what it is today. Blue Sky members and leaders in the field have taught me so much over the years. I look forward to continuing to engage as a member in this work. I've been inspired and am particularly thankful of my fellow board members Jason Morris, Fabiola Greenawalt, Kim Moore Bailey, Tom Boutureira, Kathleen Doffermyre, Hannah S., Stephanie Maez, and Lois Morrison. Thank you for all your efforts and your commitment to this work!
