Sweet Run State Park is getting its first master plan! ??? We welcome the public to get involved in the planning process. Though the park is still under development, visitors can enjoy expansive views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Sweet Run and Piney Run streams, a picnic pavilion, and 11 miles of hiking and 9 miles of equestrian trails along mature forests, meadows and mountain-side terrain. Parking is limited. The property was historically farmed, with ruins of a 19th century farming community and a restored farmhouse built in the 1840s. Thank you to everyone who attended the latest Public Information Session for the next Memorial Park Master Plan project, Memorial Groves. In this second presentation, Chris Ballard, Interim President & CEO of Memorial Park Conservancy, and Thomas Woltz, Senior Principal of Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, were joined by Michael Quennoz, Senior Archaeologist at Gray & Pape, Inc., and Emily Manderson, Principal and Senior Environmental Designer at Blackland Collaborative. Together they unveiled new renderings for the project, shared archaeological findings, provided environmental insight, and participated in a panel discussion to address submitted questions from the audience.
