Dr. Denise Carneiro-Pla emphasizes the importance of clear communication between your endocrinologist and surgeon, especially regarding medication changes. Always inform your surgeon if your meds have been changed so they can properly assess your thyroid function before the procedure. This ensures you’re properly managed and safe. A study published this year in Ophthalmology found that after one year, 24% of patients treated with TEPEZZA? for Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) required retreatment after their initial eight infusions. ???? The study found that patients needing retreatment were generally older, with an average age of 60 compared to 53 in those who responded well to the initial treatment. However, no other clear patterns were identified. While this study followed patients for one year, in a recent GDATF/AAES webinar featuring Dr. Michael Kazim from Columbia University, Dr. Kazim noted that his practice has seen single patients that relapsed at 18-24 months. ?? This highlights the importance of ongoing care and monitoring when managing TED. Working with your doctor to determine the best treatment plan for you is essential. ?? To learn more about these findings, check out the complete study and discuss your options with your healthcare provider. https://lnkd.in/gqDbjNZk #research #thyroidstudies #tepezza #thyroidhealth #TED #thyroideyedisease #risks #statistics?
