?? New Report Alert: "Tilling the Soil - Cultivating Organizer Learning and Growth" Community organizing is powerful yet challenging work, and sustaining a strong community of organizers has never been more critical. In our latest report, "Tilling the Soil: Cultivating Organizer Learning and Growth", we share insights from the Organizer Learning Project, conducted by Grassroots Solutions with support from The California Endowment. Katie Fox, Margaret Post, and Gigi Barsoum spent two years connecting with over 75+ organizers from different backgrounds, locations, and organizing traditions, listening to their stories of the experiences and people that have made a difference in their growth and development. Using imagery from plant biology, the report illustrates the phases of an organizer’s growth, from the “seeds” of their first experiences in community organizing, to the “blooming” moments of impact and achievement in their careers. This report highlights key stages of development, essential learning elements, and “nutrients” for growth that can help us better support organizers, build durable organizations, and strengthen the field. We envision "Tilling the Soil" as a grounding resource and tool to spark conversations about what more can be done to nurture and sustain organizers in the field. Whether you are an organizer, a funder, or researcher or evaluator, how can you create the conditions to catalyze and support the full range of experiences and relationships that organizers need to grow? Download it here: https://lnkd.in/g76fzcMe If nothing else, last week's election results have made me more certain than ever about the need for a strong community organizing field. Community organizing is vital to developing an informed and active citizenry, but the field is grappling with high turnover and an increased shortage of experienced organizers who can train and mentor the next generation. If we want to rebuild and sustain a thriving community of organizers, we must expand, reimagine, and strengthen how we support their growth and development. In our new report, Tilling the Soil: Cultivating Organizer Learning and Growth, we dive into the findings of the Organizer Learning Project, which Grassroots Solutions conducted with support from The California Endowment. Over two years, we engaged with 75+ organizers from diverse backgrounds, traditions, and communities, to hear their stories about important moments of growth and learning for them throughout their careers and the relationships and experiences that have sustained them.? Using imagery from plant biology, the report illustrates the phases of an organizer’s growth, from the “seeds” of their first experiences in community organizing, to the “blooming” moments of impact and achievement in their careers. It maps the key dimensions of learning and the essential “nutrients” required to sustain this growth over time.
