Rebuilding Kiev! Let's go ?? ?? In 2009 my journey to work with engineers from Ukraine started. The team helped me to build a company that we quickly sold to a large enterprise entity in the US. I ended up in Kiev during the maiden demonstrations to figure out how we can create escape plans for the team in Kyiv. It were difficult times, people were shot in the streets when I was there. In 2016 I started four companies and all companies had employees in Kyiv. We grew at the height to nearly 1,000 people in Kyiv. In 2018 we had an event that I’m still looking back with pride and excitement about the future of work with over 500 attendees. We talked about the impact of AI and the future of work in general with automation. And then unfortunately, right after Covid, the unthinkable happened in the war between Ukraine and Russia started. We went through many plans to try to solve for the unthinkable war that was happening. We set up shop in Poland. We had to close down our office building as it was taken over by the military, and then later was bombed in Kyiv. Across all of this happening, many team members continue to work and have shown dedication and resilience. It was unreal to witness this across the board from engineers to sdr’s. In general, I’m somewhat opportunistic and usually try to reduce my risk. In that manner and after talking to Steve, I’ve decided that we’re going to build our physical location for our engineering team in Europe in Kyiv. It’s about time! It’s the right time! I believe a country that went through so much and is ready to rebuild when this war is over is going to be stronger than any other country potentially in Europe. What the population has endured and went through - is something I don’t know how I would’ve handled it ??♂? I’m hopeful that the war is going to end this year. I think building a team right there in the heart of Kyiv can give us wings. With that said I believe in an amazing future for graph8 and for Ukraine because of this believe and the deep gratitude to the city all future hires for European engineering talent will be in Kyiv. Let’s build an amazing office, let’s pray for a fast ending of the war and let’s be bold and own our future path!
