I help healthcare orgs hire physicians more efficiently AND improve trust and transparency in the recruitment process for physicians with Grapevyne using peer-to-peer recruiting. Also a practicing pediatrician!

Are you ruling out rural health positions too quickly? Here are a few reasons why you shouldn’t scroll past those rural job listings if you’re looking for a new position: ? Higher Pay – Rural hospitals often offer bigger salaries, sign-on bonuses, and full loan repayment. ? Lower Cost of Living – Your paycheck stretches further. Affordable housing? Check. Relocation perks? Often included. ? Leadership Opportunities – Be more than just a number. Have a real say in decisions, your schedule, and patient care. ? Community Impact – You might be the provider a community desperately needs. Imagine being the go-to trusted doc and forming deep, meaningful patient relationships. This isn’t always the case but often times you’ll find these jobs can offer higher compensation, better work-life balance, and a chance to make an even stronger impact. #ruralhealth #healthcare #physicians #physicianjobs #doctors #doctorjobs National Rural Health Association Rural Health Information Hub

Early-career physicians, we see you. The first 7-10 years after training can feel like a whirlwind—navigating first (or second) attending roles, balancing work with family life, and figuring out the long-term career game plan. It’s a phase filled with big decisions, and those unexpected challenges. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Early Career Physicians Institute?, founded by Amna Shabbir, MD, NBC-HWC, CPC, to bring even more support, guidance, and real-world resources to physicians in this critical career stage. (Link in comments for more info!) Dr. Shabbir and her team specialize in coaching, education, and advocacy—helping early-career physicians tackle burnout, set boundaries, build confidence, and develop professionally. She’s a Master Certified Life Coach, National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, and Duke Health Certified Integrative Wellness Coach—and also a Dual Board-certified Geriatrician-Internist. Combined, our goal is to make sure you have the tools, resources, and support you need.

Know how you’re getting paid. Zhen Chan, MD MBA FAAP breaks down the compensation models.

How do doctors actually get paid? Physician compensation isn’t one-size-fits-all, and I wish we all came out of training knowing our options. So, let’s break it down: ? Straight Salary: Stability but no bonus for extra work. Common in hospitals & academia. ? Hourly Pay: Think shift work—like the ED—predictable shifts, stable income. ? Productivity-Based (RVUs): More work = more pay, but subject to number of patients/services. Example: $50 per RVU x 5,000 RVUs = $250K. ? Collections-Based: Paid on what’s actually? collected—not just billed. Not the most commonly seen but still often relevant in private practice settings. ? Hybrid Models: Base salary + productivity bonuses. Know your $/RVU rate! Find out if the threshold and rate is reasonable. (These are some of the most common you’ll see) ? Partnership/Profit-Sharing: In private practice, likely a lower salary upfront but potential for big long-term gains. Know how you’re getting paid. Read your contracts with a fine-tooth-comb. Ask questions. Hire a lawyer to help!?

Huge thanks to Dr. Nick Pappas, MD one of our Grapevyne ambassadors and an orthopedic surgeon, for shedding light on how Grapevyne simplifies career moves for practicing physicians and residents and makes it even sweeter for physicians to help each other find jobs. Because finding the right fit shouldn’t feel like a full-time job. And thanks for the laugh, Nick—because we could all use a little more humor these days.

"You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take." Michael Scott (Wayne?Gretzky) Crafting an effective cover letter and CV requires more than listing your qualifications— you have to provide a clear and compelling narrative that showcases what makes you unique from the other candidates. For physicians, this means blending your clinical expertise with a story that sets you apart. Key Steps for Your Cover Letter & CV: ? Highlight Key Credentials: Include your education, experience, leadership roles, licenses, and board certification. ? Address Gaps: Explain any gaps of over 3 months in a clear and straightforward manner. ? Use Consistent Formatting: Opt for 11 or 12-point Times New Roman or Arial, and keep dates in Month/Year format. ? Streamline Publications: List only the title, authors, journal, and publish date—keep it concise. ? Limit Your Introduction: If requested, keep any opening statement on your CV to about half a page. ? Show a Personal Touch: End with 1–2 lines about your hobbies and interests to give employers a glimpse of who you are. ? Customize Your Cover Letter: Align it with each employer’s mission and values—avoid sending the same letter everywhere. What to Avoid:? ? Over-designing or using distracting visuals. ??Including pre-medical school details (undergraduate is acceptable). ??Listing conference attendance (only list conference presentations). ? Providing birth dates, social security numbers, or other personal IDs. ? Including a photograph unless explicitly requested. ? Listing references unless asked for. For more career advice, check out our career hub. Link in comments.?
