There have been two major updates for federal grantseekers in the last 24 hours. Here's what we're tracking: Federal Grant Disbursement Injunction Upheld A federal judge this morning ruled indefinitely extended a block on the Trump administration's attempt to freeze federal funding, emphasizing that such actions undermine Congress' constitutional authority and caused "concrete and imminent harm" to grant recipients. The judge also highlighted that federal agencies lack the authority to halt funds that Congress has appropriated and obligated to the states. Additionally, the freeze was deemed "ill-conceived" and lacking a rational explanation, as it failed to consider the significant disruptions it would cause to vital health, education, and infrastructure programs. NIH Indirect Cost Rate Cap Temporarily Blocked Another ruling last night temporarily halted the Trump administration’s plan to cap indirect research costs at 15% for NIH-funded projects. Research institutions successfully argued it would devastate labs, clinical trials, and advanced medical research (https://lnkd.in/eccDBu_p). Both rulings will almost certainly face appeals.
