Donor Site Visits. Nonprofits and intermediaries really need to reinvision these. Site visits require executives and their teams to take significant time away from delivering on their core missions. At their best, site visits are accessible and efficient ways to engage donors around a specific (or intersectional) cause. The organization is a means to affect change in that/those cause(s). At their worst, they are voyeuristic and filled with posture and fear. ————— How they can work well: -Engaging existing donors to invite their networks -Start conversations that can lead to longer-term, transformational support -Do not make an ask during your first interactions, unless the donors essentially lead you there. -Authenically share your challenges and how you envision tackling them (not just through more financial support) How they can flounder: -Voyeuristic experiences like a homelessness walk or ethnic neighborhood tour. This puts the end beneficiaries and the nonprofits serving them in a very weird power dynamic -Only sharing the good. -Having these opportunities be open to unknown donors -Putting EDs or program participants in a position to HAVE to speak at the program -Transactional conversations

Google.org is providing U.S. Digital Response with $1M in funding and a team of full-time pro bono Google.org Fellows, to develop generative AI use cases and prototypes for use in government. State and Local governments can submit generative AI-based projects to be supported by USDR and pro bono Google.org Fellows. USDR + Fellows are excited to learn more about the needs of governments across the country and to provide a safe place for experimentation, learning, and solution development to address some of the most pressing challenges facing residents today.
