Well that's a wrap! Our Intro to 3D Printing Workshop ended up having about 20 people (of all ages) show up! We talked about the various types of technologies, then zoned in on FDM for hobbyists. #makerspace #makersgonnamake #3dprinting #grandrapids

At last week's board meeting, we confirmed that we will not be moving forward with the building on Linden Ave that was the leading contender for our new home. We were unable to come to terms that were agreeable for all, and therefore, we are moving on to other exciting possibilities. We are already in discussion with a few other promising spaces. We will share more information about those properties when we are able. Please keep your eyes open for any space that might be conducive for a community makerspace! Thank you to all our supporting members! Your contributions have enabled us to continue the search and build a small fund to acquire a building. We understand that updates haven’t been as regular as usual. This is because we’ve come very close to securing a building several times this past year and wanted to wait until we had definitive news to share. Now, we’re excited to announce a unique opportunity to lease a centrally located building at 1546 Linden Street The building is a two-story, 5,000-square-foot space with an open office area on the upper floor and a warehouse with a garage on the lower floor. Proximity to other organizations in the community and a bus route nearby has us believing this would make a great home for Grand River Makerspace! Please note, this is not a finalized deal—we’re still in the negotiation phase... but we are very excited about the opportunity! We are currently raising funds to cover the initial monthly rent and operating expenses. Keep an eye out for an upcoming fundraising campaign. How can you help? We were at NEXT STEP OF WEST MICHIGAN today teaching some Intro to Arduino to some of their program attendees! They build these really cool woodworking projects here and teach people skills! Who knows, maybe in the future there can be a hybrid wood-electronic project! Maybe it's a birdhouse that counts the amount of activity it sees!
