Several months ago, I was contacted by Michelle Lemming, CEO & President of the Texoma Health Foundation, regarding some very concerning data on the suicide rate of truck drivers. Since that time, we have worked collaboratively with some great partners to establish a campaign to assist truck drivers experiencing mental health challenges.
Below is the letter drafted by Michelle Lemming to kick off the "No Load is Too Heavy to Share" campaign, and I hope those of you in the trucking industry will give it a read!
Join us in helping to save lives and raise awareness that No Load is Too Heavy to Share. Together we can reduce stigma and recognize early signs of depression and suicidal thoughts in truckers who support our way of life every day.
The journey began when truckers were highlighted as a top concern and high-risk group by the State of Texas during the first report of real-time suicide data at the N. Texas Mental Health Forum earlier this year. For those of us working in this space, the delay of suicide data, that can lag as much as 2-3 years, is a major challenge to proactive strategy, and the State's efforts to collect real-time data is a major milestone.
As soon as the information was released, I reached out to leaders Brett Graham of Graham International & Graham Truck Centers, and Kevin Lambing with the TLL Temple Foundation, both of whom have been key partners in this initiative from day one.
Austin College and 988 national have all played crucial roles in developing and supporting this project.
Collectively we were able to respond in a way that none of us could have done alone and we are now ready to launch the No Load Is Too Heavy to Share Campaign. The initiative focuses on increasing awareness of signs, knowing how to respond, and find help for those who are hurting in and outside of the trucking industry.
For more information on the campaign and how to access the assets that are available to you, go to https://lnkd.in/ek2k5Hmr . Assets include posters, postcards, wallet cards and bumper stickers. By filling out the partner material request form, you will receive the link to the assets. We will also send out a starter kit to you as well. The assets are designed to allow you to add your own company logo. Also thanks to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles for working with us to distribute to thousands of trucking companies here in Texas.
More info to come....please share to help us get the word out and thank you!
