PhD opportunity alert! Are you interested in researching how repeated wildfires impact flooding risk in communities? And how the impacts of both climate change and vegetation recovery time in drought years affect flooding risk? Come work with our colleague Guo Yu, Ph.D., P.E. at Desert Research Institute while enrolled in the Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences UNR & DRI and taking classes at University of Nevada, Reno. Please check https://lnkd.in/g-6v2RXS for program admissions info and application deadlines. https://lnkd.in/gsiZjBTD #hydrology #gradschool #fire #flooding #risk

PhD opportunity alert! Research the elusive physical processes of the North American Monsoon (NAM) to: quantify characteristics, understand the role of sea surface temperature, and investigate climate change. This project aims to quantify the key NAM features over a longer period and explore the physical relationship between it and extreme rainfall in southern Nevada under a changing climate. ? Come work with Guo Yu, Ph.D., P.E. at Desert Research Institute in the Graduate Program of Hydrologic Sciences UNR & DRI at University of Nevada, Reno. Please check https://lnkd.in/g-6v2RXS for admissions info and application deadlines. Figure below shows percent of total annual precipitation occurring during July to September based on CPC Unified rain-gauge-based data from 1979 to 2020 (Credit:Climate.gov), as well as the five crucial aspects of the NAM life cycle that this study aims to quantify over a long period.
