Introducing Hotel Regente in Puebla, a project structurally composed of two rectangular sections designed to ensure stability and efficiency ???. The structure features reinforced concrete frames, a two-way slab system using fiberglass molds, and isolated footings, optimizing materials for a safe and functional solution. Considering the seismic conditions of the area (NTC mexican code: Zone C, soil type 2) our design effectively meets structural demands, ensuring optimal performance. ?? Turning Architectural Challenges into Structural Solutions – RSC Project At G50 Structural Engineering, we collaborate closely with architects and design teams to bring ideas to life while keeping things practical and efficient. Project RSC, located in Brownsville, TX, is a great example of how the right structural approach can make a big difference by achieving: ? Large open spaces and impressive cantilevers, ? A smooth integration with the architectural design, ? Structural safety and cost-effective solutions for an efficient construction process. Through structural modeling, we ensure every detail is accounted for, helping construction teams stay on track, avoid delays, and work with confidence. Since Brownsville falls under Risk Category II in the ASCE 7-22, wind loads were a key factor in our design. With speeds reaching 140 mph, we reinforced critical structural elements to comply with IBC 2021, ensuring long-term safety and performance. A special thanks to our friends and clients at Alvarez Bernes Desing for trusting us with the structural design of this project. ?? Swipe through to see how it all comes together! ?? Casa Naiara: Redefining Structural Innovation in Texas, US ?? At G50 Structural Engineering, we're all about taking designs to the next level while keeping them safe, reliable, and up to U.S. standards. Located in McAllen, Texas, exemplifies this approach. Collaborating closely with our friends and clients at Alvarez Bernes Arch, we developed a structural system that seamlessly integrates: ?? Wood framing and prefabricated wooden trusses, ??LVL beams, W-section steel beams, and HSS columns, ??A reinforced concrete slab foundation with counter beams for enhanced stability. One of the project's key challenges was resolving large spans and achieving impressive cantilevers. Leveraging steel trusses and wide-flange beams, we created an efficient, robust solution while maintaining architectural intent. The design process included: ? Advanced mathematical modeling, ? Detailed coordination in Revit, ? Compliance with U.S. standards (NDS, ASCE, IRC, IBC) for precision and safety. This project showcases how thoughtful collaboration and innovative engineering can transform creative visions into reality. ?? Swipe to explore renderings, Revit models, and design details! Excited to highlight one of our latest residential building projects, featuring an innovative dual system of GFRP-reinforced concrete frames and Steel-reinforced concrete walls. G50 Structural Engineering ?? Key Feature: GFRP (Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymer) and Seismic Design For this project, we utilized GFRP to reinforce beams and columns, offering significant advantages such as high tensile strength, non-corrosive properties, and lightweight handling. However, one of the most important aspects of this project is how we ensured compliance with the ACI 440 code, particularly in a seismic zone. ?? According to ACI 440, GFRP is approved for use in seismic Zone A. In Zone B (this project), however, GFRP can only be used if the material is not primarily responsible for resisting seismic forces. To meet this requirement in our design, we ensured that over 70% of the seismic load was dissipated through steel-reinforced concrete walls. This approach reduced the impact on the GFRP-reinforced frames, ensuring they were primarily responsible for handling gravitational loads rather than lateral seismic forces. By distributing the forces this way, we ensured compliance with the code while maximizing the benefits of GFRP in terms of material efficiency and durability. Benefits of GFRP: 1?? High Tensile Strength 2?? Non-Corrosive 3?? Lightweight 4?? Cost Efficiency Over Time 5?? Sustainability ?? When designing with GFRP, ACI 440 guidelines ensure the material performs effectively. In most cases, the design is governed more by serviceability criteria rather than pure strength. Key factors we evaluated include: 1?? Creep and Long-Term Deflections: the tendency of GFRP to deform permanently under sustained load over time. Designers must evaluate how sustained loads will affect GFRP over the life of the structure and apply appropriate safety factors. 2?? Short-Term Deflections: This includes the immediate response of GFRP-reinforced elements to loads, ensuring that the structure remains within acceptable deflection limits during both construction and service life. 3?? Shrinkage and Creep of Concrete: ACI 440 requires designers to consider the interaction between GFRP and concrete over time. Concrete can experience shrinkage and creep, which may lead to cracking or stress redistribution in GFRP-reinforced members. 4?? Cracking: Serviceability covers limiting deflections and cracking during the life of the structure to ensure functionality. ACI 440 advises careful design to ensure that cracks remain within acceptable limits, particularly in elements that undergo regular load changes, like slabs and beams. 5?? Fatigue: GFRP materials behave differently than steel under cyclic or repetitive loading.Especially in structures exposed to dynamic or fluctuating loads, to prevent failure due to fatigue over time. We’re excited to share our latest project in Zapopan, Jalisco: Palomar, in collaboration with Creato Architects! This exciting residential development has been designed with a solid and efficient structure, utilizing load-bearing walls of confined masonry and small concrete frames, all supported by continuous concrete footings. The reticular slabs, lightened with polystyrene blocks, ensure a lightweight yet resilient construction. We deeply appreciate our clients' trust in us to bring this project to life. We continue to innovate and deliver structural solutions that ensure the durability and quality of every project! *The structural model is a graphical representation of the volumetry of the structural elements, which may differ from the final structural plans. Any discrepancies in the interpretation of the model are merely a visualization from the software and do not represent the final design.* G 5 0 Structural Engineering
