关于我们
Founded by educators, Gradient Learning is a nonprofit organization that brings communities, schools, and families together in pursuit of meeting the holistic needs of every student. Our vision has always been to give schools a unified system that makes Whole Student Learning achievable. Our 2023-2024 update is a step towards delivering on that promise. We’re rethinking, remaking, and rebuilding education—partnering with schools across the country through the Summit Learning program and our new tool, Along. Increased Access to Rigorous Curricula & Supports We want schools to have access to the most rigorous, whole-student-aligned curricula available today so that students can access rich, relevant learning materials every day. That’s why we’re supplementing our 2024 Base Curriculum with externally validated curricula in math, English Language Arts, science, and open-source courses in social studies. All curricula will be preloaded into our platform, and newly implementing schools will receive training and resources from Gradient Learning. Whole Student Refresh We are also refining our support of whole student outcomes for our schools. We are prioritizing a set of our Habits of Success, adding aligned assessment tools into courses, refining our dashboards to incorporate those new assessments, and building out a new set of research-based teacher practices that lead to student growth on these prioritized Habits of Success. Evolved Learning Platform Lastly, we are evolving our platform to meet our current and future programmatic needs. We’re excited to share that we built a new experience on top of Canvas and are heavily customizing our instance of the platform so it comes pre-loaded with all of our rigorous curricula, our mentoring experience, our whole student dashboard, updated Learning Space, and more. This is all part of our evolution towards a complete Whole Student System that brings together everything educators need—in a single, cohesive approach.

Two Leaders, One Shared Vision ?? ?? When it comes to transforming education, it takes more than great ideas—it takes alignment and a shared vision. Monica Milligan, Executive Director of Gradient Learning, and Sandra Liu Huang, Head of Education at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), are working hand-in-hand to help educators support the whole student. ?? Monica’s story ?? ?? Monica’s passion for education started with a personal experience. As an immigrant and English language learner, she was once a student who felt unseen. ?? It wasn’t until a teacher recognized her potential that her life trajectory changed. This experience drives her commitment to making sure no student feels invisible. Sandra’s vision ?? ?? Sandra leads CZI’s efforts to ensure that every student receives an education that is tailored to their needs and that they have the skills and knowledge to reach their full potential. ?? Together with Monica, she’s ensuring that the Whole Student System delivers exactly what educators need—support for students’ academic and emotional growth. What unites them? ?? ?? Both leaders believe that building meaningful student-teacher relationships is key to student success. ?? Through their collaboration, CZI and Gradient Learning are helping educators across the country foster connections that unlock every student’s potential. ?? “Every student deserves at least one adult who sees them and believes in their journey.” Monica and Sandra are committed to making this belief a reality by ensuring educators have the tools to support the whole student, both academically and emotionally. Read an inspiring discussion between these two leaders in the comments. ?? : CZI

Get to know our Director of School and District Success, Krista Purnell ?? Krista’s journey in education began over 20 years ago as a 5th-grade math teacher. ?? From there, she expanded her expertise by teaching 6th and 8th grade and eventually stepped into an instructional coaching role. Her passion for empowering educators didn’t stop there—it led her to the non-profit sector, where she’s spent the last decade supporting schools and districts across the country. ?? One thing that has shaped Krista’s career? Being open to unexpected opportunities. ?? ?? “Early in my career, even though I taught 5th grade, I was asked to support 8th-grade students. I took on the challenge without knowing where it would lead. Ironically, in my next role, I ended up teaching 8th grade! This has happened multiple times in my career—even challenges have opened new doors for me.” Now, in her current role, Krista is excited about the shift toward whole student learning. ?? “Whole student education isn’t just about academics—it’s about engaging students in a way that allows them to collaborate, debate, and truly grow as individuals.” Her leadership is grounded in a vision for the future where technology and innovation enhance learning, not replace it. ?? “As we move forward, I hope we continue to use advancements to support students’ growth in meaningful ways.” With her extensive experience and openness to new opportunities, Krista continues to inspire and lead the way toward a brighter future for students and educators alike. We’re proud to have her on our team. ?? #EmployeeSpotlight #MeetOurTeam #WholeStudentLearning #EducationLeadership
