Gracie University (GU) is the world's leading center for self-defense instruction. GU offers demographic-specific self-defense programs that teach men, women, children, and law enforcement based in the principles and techniques of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu (also known as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu). What was once a family-owned martial arts school in the South Bay has evolved into a global enterprise with over 150 certified schools, an online university with over 220,000 students, and a flourishing clothing brand. Our Torrance location serves as GU headquarters with over 1,100 local students. Owners Rener and Ryron Gracie are grandsons of Helio Gracie, the co-creator of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and they continue his legacy as they teach the weak to defend against the strong. For both instructors and students, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is more than a martial art, it is a lifestyle. Gracie University Headquarters is a state-of-the-art facility, and offers free jiu-jitsu training and use of their private gym to all employees and instructors.

  • Today marks one month after our temporary GU Headquarters due to COVID-19, and we miss our students immensely! Here's a reminder of what we are offering to our active students during the closure. WEEKLY WEBINARS WITH THE GRACIE BROTHERS During this downtime, Ryron, Rener, and other head instructors at GU will be hosting regular live webinars on the different positional chapters of jiu-jitsu (mount, guard, side mount, etc). The seminars will be very comprehensive and there will be questions and answer opportunities from live viewers. Each time a webinar is scheduled, students on the Tuition Continuation Program will be notified so they can log in and grow with the family. AT-HOME PROGRESS PROGRAM Utilizing Gracie University’s online system, all students who remain on the Tuition Continuation Program will have the opportunity to study their classes online, learn from home, and earn official class credit for any techniques learned during the closure period. Upon the reopening of the school, students will have the chance to demonstrate the newly learned techniques at a free in-person Verification Seminar, and for each completed lesson that they successfully demonstrate, they will get a check mark on their official attendance card.
