We ran into Barbara and Tom the other day. And discovered why, as Barbara said, “Grace Clinic is part of our heart.” Barbara was a nurse at Kennewick General Hospital. When her colleague Dr. Cheryl Snyder announced she was co-founding a free medical clinic in 2002, Barbara was all in. She started volunteering at Grace Clinic's first home, the basement of a Pasco church. Tom, then a construction inspector, was by her side. “I just go where she goes,” he laughed. Tom set up the Clinic’s first phone system and took on other facility tasks. Twenty-two years later, we’ve logged more than 115,000 patient visits. Grace Clinic is the ONLY place in the Tri-Cities where uninsured, low-income adults can receive FREE medical, dental, and mental health services. During this season of Thanksgiving, we are grateful for Barbara and Tom’s legacy of caring. Will you join them? Do you know your A1C level? 1 out of 3 adults in the U.S. has prediabetes. Surprisingly, most don't know they have it. Pre-diabetes is when your blood sugar level is too high -- with an A1C level between 5.7 and 6.4. The good news: Prediabetes can be reversed! Check out these tips by our Grace Clinic Medical Director, Kathryn Brault. #DiabetesAwarenessMonth

It was cold. And windy. But they persisted. Members of Classical Conversations Kennewick, a homeschool community, picked up an entire truckload of leaves from our parking lots today. Well done! Special thanks to Teona Golding for her work with this group and as a Grace Clinic Board member. [Photos used with permission.] #TeamworkMakestheDreamWork | #DontStopDeLeafing?

George and Deborah understand healthcare and wise budgeting. George is a pharmacist at Kadlec and Deborah was in banking for years. So it's especially gratifying to hear their response when we asked why they support Grace Clinic financially. Will you join them? You do a double-take when you see George Washington “in person.” You’re even more surprised when he starts telling you all the parts of the mouth and jaw in the fake teeth at your table. Because in real life, he was a teacher of medical anatomy. We chatted with “George” and dozens of others at the 2024 Tri-Cities Veterans Resource Expo today. We reminded vets that they may be eligible for FREE dental care at Grace Clinic if they have VA insurance but no dental coverage. We are in Kennewick, WA. #ThankYouForYourService | #FreeHealthcare ?

“Our son Justin was almost two years old when we began noticing changes.” Kathryn Brault, ARNP, Grace Clinic’s Medical Director and a diabetes specialist, remembers this time like it was yesterday. “He was a very sweet little boy, but he became more easily upset. It seemed like he was always thirsty. He often awoke and called to us from his crib in the middle of the night for a drink of water. He went through more diapers and was starting to look thinner. After several office visits, I asked his doctor if Justin could have diabetes. Labs were done. A normal blood sugar level is 60 – 99. Justin’s was 840. We knew then that Justin had Type 1 diabetes, where his pancreas could not produce insulin the way it should. Our sweet toddler had to start on insulin immediately. Managing diabetes takes an incredible amount of work. Justin needed three insulin injections a day—that was 13,000 injections by the time he was 14 and about another 13,000 pokes for fingersticks to test blood sugars. No one really understood how much it took for him just to stay alive then. At 14, he began using an insulin pump. That was easier, but still a lot of work. Today, Justin and his wife, Kirsten, have two adorable young sons. Justin teaches high school and stays on top of his diabetes with an insulin pump, CGM monitoring, and a healthy lifestyle.” Wondering if you or a loved one might have diabetes? Watch for these signs: 1. Increased thirst 2. Increased urination 3. Weight loss 4. Fatigue [Photo: Mark Brault and his son at Kadlec Hospital when Justin was diagnosed with diabetes. All was merry and bright at the Grace Clinic Donor Appreciation event yesterday, at Cafe Magnolia. Elegant appetizers and desserts. Take-home wine glasses. Heartfelt gratitude from Clinic leaders. Live music by guitarist Burke Earhart. And best of all, hand-written cards from patients, expressing what Grace Clinic means to them. People often ask us, "How can you provide healthcare services for free?" It's only because of faithful supporters such as all of you. Those who generously give of their finances, time, and talents are the bedrock of our work. Your gifts provide a healthcare safety net for hard-working Tri-Citians. We never take you for granted. And we promise to steward your gifts with professionalism, integrity, and transparency. #Grateful | #QualityHealthcareFreelyGiven
