Chiang Mai Thailand: Loy Krathong and Yi Peng Lantern Festival Nov 27-28? This beautiful festival is to give thanks to Buddha, and is held at a full moon in the 12th month of the Thai lunar calendar.?At this time of year, when the river is believed to be at its fullest and the moon at its brightest, lanterns are released into the sky (Yi Peng), and onto the water (Loy Krathong). In addition to the release ceremonies, there are singing competitions, a lantern boat procession and fireworks.
