NASPO ValuePoint wrapped! We left early enough today that even the flamingoes were still asleep but we were tickled pink by lessons on how to get a leg up on procurement challenges and… honestly we’d have more jokes but it was a long week with over 150 unique meetings. Brian Selander, Mike Smith, Jason Soza, CPPO, CSSBB , Dan Ross , Rick Hughes and (for his first NASPO) Jason Hebbe saw so many great friends and made a few new ones for our partners in government and business.

Government Sourcing Solutions (GovSourcing) was founded over 15 years ago when Pennsylvania’s head of procurement saw an opportunity for states, counties, cities and universities to better leverage the competitively bid contracts he and his fellow NASPO members had been putting in place in their states though innovative strategic sourcing projects. Procurement teams at every level of government were being required to tackle increased challenges with shrinking staff and needed to leverage no-cost solutions like cooperative purchasing and insights from leaders around the country to deliver results. GSS is growing rapidly. In addition to senior state, county, city and university executives, we recruit innovative business leaders looking to leverage their experience to help governments generate savings and results.

Which president was leading the nation forward when you began your service in the public sector?
Although we focus on helping SLED leaders, this Presidents’ Day, we’ve been thinking of the Commanders in Chief who were in office when each of us at Government Sourcing Solutions started our careers in the public sector. Who was in charge when you started working? My friend and colleague Greg Zickau’s early years included traveling with Defense Secretary Weinberger to set up confidential calls with then-President Reagan.

The GovSourcing team is finishing 2024 strong!
Figured pictures of football stadiums would be a good analogies for the Government Sourcing Solutions team finishing the 4th quarter strong. This week Jason Hebbe, Mike Smith, and I are all over the state of Mississippi seeing great friends and thinking through the projects 2025 have in store. Great to see Lance Fulcher and John Walters at their respective universities as well as Brittney Thompson and Matt Nassar with the State of Mississippi.

Little Rock by night was something else. I’ve been in the city before, but I don’t know that I had seen the Capitol glow. Magnificent! A seperate note: A perk of the constant Government Sourcing Solutions travel schedule is enjoying the local dining scene. Although he runs Procurated by day (helping public sector understand supplier ratings),David Yarkin is a national treasurer when it comes to food reviews in just about every city!
