As spring returns to the DMV, we’re thinking back to last year’s Mobility Maze, an innovative outdoor placemaking initiative that engaged even the youngest of aspiring transportation planners. The "StreetSmarts at the PARC" traffic garden at Tysons Community Alliance's Placemaking Fest brought urban design to life, allowing children to navigate a miniature cityscape complete with crosswalks, roundabouts, and railroad crossings. 🚲 This collaborative project between TCA, GOROVE SLADE, and Tech Painting Co Inc demonstrated how thoughtful design and community engagement can create educational opportunities and vibrant public spaces that continue to inspire urban planning conversations today. As we celebrate Earth Day 2025, GOROVE SLADE volunteered in support of the Providence District’s (Fairfax County, VA) Earth Day Celebration which featured a Mobility Garden. Local children practiced their “driving skills” while using pedal-powered wiggle bikes. Thanks to Supervisor Dalia Palchik and Celebrate Fairfax, Inc. for the opportunity! On this Earth Day, we encourage everyone to break out their bikes and get their pedal on! #EarthDay2025

We are excited to share our firm's incredible journey with The Yards development, adjacent to Nationals Park, where the Washington Nationals kick off their season today! As fans stream into Nationals Park, they'll experience a neighborhood designed with pedestrian, bicycle, and transit access at its core. The transformation from industrial waterfront to vibrant urban center showcases how thoughtful transportation planning creates places where people want to be.  Our transportation planning work began in 2000 with the Southeast Federal Center Master Plan, creating a blueprint that prioritized connectivity and multi-modal access. We've been proud to support everything from street design to entitlement for iconic properties, including The Thompson Hotel, Foundry Lofts, District Winery, and the twelve12 building.   Here's to Opening Day and to continuing Washington's great tradition of baseball in a neighborhood we helped shape!
