We tackled key questions around designing evidence-based XR programs, overcoming adoption barriers, and building faculty capacity. ?? SSH President Dr. Barry Issenberg, SSH Accreditation Incoming Chair Jarrod Young, and SSH Accreditation Chair Jack Jaeger attended SIMex Mexico this week! Jaeger and Young were afforded the opportunity to give a keynote lecture on "Simulation as a Tool for Improving Patient Quality and Safety." Additionally, both joined CISA colleague Dr. Edgar Herrera (President of SOMESICS) to give a workshop discussing Accreditation and Certification in simulation as a bridge to quality healthcare. Dr. Issenberg was awarded as "SOMESICS International Mentor" with a symbolic "The Dancing Colomites" award, "which depicts two small pre-Hispanic dogs: an adult dog and a young one...that symbolizes the passing of experience from one generation to the next, ensuring that knowledge and respect for past experiences are preserved." Drawing on practices established in fields like aviation and the military, the guide outlines how simulation can elevate clinical training, focusing on patient safety and skill standardisation. The authors emphasise?curriculum integration?as a foundation for success. By aligning simulation exercises with existing curricula, educators can ensure that these experiences enhance core competencies rather than serve as standalone activities. Simulation centers should also offer?high-fidelity scenarios?that reflect real-world complexity, allowing learners to practice skills repeatedly through?deliberate practice?until proficiency is achieved. High-quality simulation training promotes mastery in a risk-free setting, reducing medical errors and enhancing patient outcomes.
