Building a High-Impact Simulation Center: Essential Lessons from the Experts Authors: Ivette Motola MD, MPH, Luke Devine, Hyun Soo Chung, John Sullivan Barry Issenberg ? Reviewer: David Laith Rawaf, MD Link to paper:??https://lnkd.in/epcKggfC In this influential 2013 guide,?#Simulation in Healthcare Education: A Best Evidence Practical Guide, Ivette Motola and colleagues lay out the core principles for designing and operating an effective simulation centre. Although an older paper, it remains a go-to reference, highlighting the most crucial elements of simulation-based #healthcare education. Drawing on practices established in fields like aviation and the military, the guide outlines how simulation can elevate clinical training, focusing on patient safety and skill standardisation. The authors emphasise?curriculum integration?as a foundation for success. By aligning simulation exercises with existing curricula, educators can ensure that these experiences enhance core competencies rather than serve as standalone activities. Simulation centers should also offer?high-fidelity scenarios?that reflect real-world complexity, allowing learners to practice skills repeatedly through?deliberate practice?until proficiency is achieved. High-quality simulation training promotes mastery in a risk-free setting, reducing medical errors and enhancing patient outcomes. Effective feedback is another pillar, with structured debriefings enabling learners to reflect on their actions and gain insights. The paper also recommends flexible space design and multi-level simulators to support diverse learner needs. In addition, ongoing faculty training is critical for sustaining a high-quality program and ensuring the facility meets its educational goals. Motola’s guide remains foundational, establishing a blueprint for building, implementing, and continuously improving simulation centers to maximise educational impact. #SimulationEducation #HealthcareTraining #DeliberatePractice Elliot Street, Glenn Cooper FCIPS, Matthew Harris, Ross Davies, Jake Connell, Emma O'Hagan, Ben Quinton

On World Stroke Day, we took a step towards raising awareness about stroke prevention and care with a 20-minute walk around campus. Stroke is a leading cause of disability and death, yet up to 80% of strokes may be prevented with proper care and education. Walking improves cardiovascular health, helping to reduce stroke risk. Let us work together to reduce the impact of stroke through education, prevention, and advanced care. Together, we are #GreaterThanStroke! #WorldStrokeDay #StrokeAwareness #GordonCenter #ASLS #StrokePrevention #AdvancingStrokeCare
