Our CEO, Latesha Byrd, and Sr. DEI & Talent Development Consultant, Janelle St. Omer, were honored to join Zack Godfrey, MBA, Account Executive at Benevity, for the "Building Your ERG Strategy: A Framework for Success!" webinar. The session was a success! We had over 550 registrations. Here’s just one of the incredible responses we received from attendees: "Dang, these folks were on point. They knew their stuff, had balanced answers, gave practical tips and were wildly humble. Bring them back for sure!" We want to extend a huge thank you to Benevity for hosting this phenomenal event and creating such a powerful platform for collaboration and learning. We're thrilled to have been part of it and can't wait for more opportunities to share valuable insights!

Is your workplace truly supporting employees living with #obesity? It’s time for leaders to take an honest look at how weight bias might be holding their teams back. Obesity is a chronic disease, not a personal flaw. Yet employees living with obesity often encounter stigma, missed opportunities, and limited access to care. This quietly chips away at morale, engagement, and overall performance. Creating meaningful change requires more than surface-level inclusion. It calls for solutions that meet employees where they are. That’s why partnering with EveryBODY Covered over the last two months has meant so much to me. This isn’t just about health. It’s about fairness. When employees receive the care and opportunities they deserve, organizations perform at their best. To continue the conversation on providing comprehensive obesity care coverage, I encourage HR professionals and company leaders to take advantage of the free educational resources available. The EveryBODY Covered employer hub has what you need to get started. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eHgUUb_x I also want to hear from you! ????How can you be an ally to employees living with #obesity? For starters, listen with empathy and make an effort to learn. Research how you can advocate for comprehensive obesity care coverage and make inclusive language part of your day-to-day, both inside and outside of the workplace. And for employers, showing up as an ally means evaluating your health plans to see if they support ALL employees. If you’ve made a commitment to create an inclusive environment, reconsider how your organization can support every employee’s career advancement, well-being, and overall experience. The #paygap for women living with #obesity is way larger than you think. A study by The Economist highlights the reality for women living with obesity:? ??Those with bachelor's degrees earn 12% less than their peers who are not affected by obesity ??Women living with obesity with graduate degrees face an even steeper 19% pay disparity. Women living with obesity are often overlooked for promotions, denied essential development opportunities, and receive inadequate recognition for their hard work. All because of their body weight. This type of discrimination prevents women living with obesity from securing the salaries they deserve and stifles their professional growth. As a result, organizations miss out on the diverse perspectives and experiences these employees bring to the workplace. To help bridge this gap, the EveryBODY Covered campaign is working to ensure everyone has access to comprehensive obesity care. I recommend all employers and HR leaders check out their employer hub for information on the importance of? inclusive benefits and how to advocate for change: https://lnkd.in/eHgUUb_x #SponsoredbyAWHP #everyBODYcovered

For Black women navigating race, gender, and living with #obesity, life can feel like walking a tightrope. Every day, we carry an invisible load—the extra mental work of navigating stereotypes about who we are, or who we aren’t. We’re hyper-aware in meetings, second-guessing how we’re perceived, and wondering if we’ll be denied opportunities, no matter how qualified we are, because of our body size. But it doesn't stop there. The stress stemming from these compounded biases impacts our mental health. It creates a cycle that disrupts our overall well-being, making it harder to maintain both personal health and career performance. The American Medical Association reports that obesity is linked to more than 200 health complications, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, fertility challenges, and mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. As someone who has experienced weight bias, I know firsthand how these health burdens are magnified when there is no workplace support. Many employers are starting to recognize the value and importance of covering obesity care. We need this positive momentum to continue as more employers step up and support their employees' health. When workplaces address the unique needs of Black women, they create environments where everyone feels supported. Want to learn more and take action? ???? We know this is a tough job market, but let’s talk about another barrier many candidates face: weight bias. Two equally qualified candidates are up for a role, one affected by overweight? Both have identical qualifications and the same experience. Despite this, the candidate living with overweight is seen as less deserving of the role. Weight bias does more than hurt feelings, it causes real harm. What’s more alarming is that companies often overlook this bias in the workplace and don’t realize how it hurts their culture. Here’s why, according to the Obesity Action Coalition: ??Women living with #obesity earn 6% less than their thinner peers for the same work. ??Employees living with overweight or obesity face stricter discipline for infractions. ??Those living with overweight or obesity are more likely to be terminated for non-performance reasons. ??People living with overweight or obesity are unfairly labeled as lazy or less competent. These stories are not just statistics, they reflect the everyday experiences of people living with obesity. I'm teaming up with EveryBODY Covered to help employers and decision-makers prioritize comprehensive obesity care coverage. Have you ever felt unsure of what to say when the topic of #obesity comes up at work? Maybe it’s during a benefits meeting when you're advocating for better coverage, or when a coworker says something insensitive. I totally understand, it feels super awkward. The stigma around obesity makes these conversations uncomfortable. But it’s more than that—it affects how people affected by obesity feel about themselves and how they’re treated at work. That’s why our words matter. The language we use shapes how we see and treat each other, especially with sensitive health topics. So, let’s make it clear. EveryBODY Covered shared terms to avoid and more inclusive alternatives for a more respectful workplace. Swipe to read more???? But before you scroll, I want to invite you to attend a webinar in partnership with EveryBODY Covered featuring myself, Katrina Jones, CEO of Advancing Equity & Inclusion, and Alliance for Women's Health & Prevention CEO Millicent Gorham on November 7th at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT. We’ll explore how obesity uniquely affects women’s health, especially for Black and Hispanic women. We’ll also discuss the urgent need for employers to provide comprehensive coverage for employees living with obesity, and practical steps HR leaders and employers can take to foster inclusive environments. If you grew up living with #obesity, you probably experienced teasing or bullying from your peers. Fast forward to adulthood and that same discrimination can follow you into the workplace, leading to lower wages and fewer career opportunities. This creates an environment filled with bias and prejudice that severely impacts Black and Hispanic women in particular. Many women don't realize that no matter their current weight, everyone can benefit from workplaces that offer comprehensive obesity care. ????Consider this: The Journal of Obesity reports that nearly 25% of women in the U.S. who become pregnant are affected by obesity and that number jumps to 70% for women going through perimenopause (NBCI) It’s time for us to recognize obesity as a women’s health issue. Comprehensive obesity care should be covered just as care for other chronic diseases is covered—it’s only fair. ??We need leaders to step up and make obesity coverage a standard part of health benefits. I invite you to join me, Millicent Gorham, CEO of the Alliance for Women's Health & Prevention, and Katrina Jones, CEO of Advancing Equity & Inclusion, on Thursday, November 7th, at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT for a webinar and fireside chat on destigmatizing obesity in the workplace. Attendees will also receive a free guide with policies, programs, and coverage options for HR leaders and employers! No one should be overlooked, underpaid, or held back at work because of their body size. When we're talking about inclusion, we need to talk about #obesity too. I’m excited to announce my partnership with EveryBODY Covered, a campaign dedicated to ensuring that everybody has coverage for comprehensive obesity care. Weight stigma and microaggressions are far too common, and many employers still don’t recognize obesity as a chronic disease. When companies fail to provide adequate coverage or resources, it sends the message that employee well-being is not a priority. I’ve spoken with many women living with obesity who feel extremely unsupported at work, and I know how this impacts their career advancement and overall well-being. Data from the Economist and NBCI shows that they earn less money than their colleagues and are less likely to be promoted. The statistics are clear: failing to address obesity in the workplace impacts not only physical health but also equity and inclusion. I invite you to join me and Millicent Gorham of the Alliance for Women's Health & Prevention on Thursday, November 7th at 12 PM ET / 9 AM PT for a free webinar and fireside chat on strategies for destigmatizing obesity in the workplace. ????Save your spot: https://lnkd.in/eNuerwvk Here’s what we’ll cover: ??How obesity is a women’s health issue and how it has a disproportionate impact on women of color. ??Why employers should support employees living with obesity and invest in proper coverage for needed care. ??Practical strategies for HR leaders and employers to better support employees living with obesity. I truly believe in EveryBODY Covered’s mission and look forward to amplifying the incredible work they’re doing for people living with obesity. Let’s come together to ensure everyBODY is covered!
