Whether you're looking for unique home decor, quality sports equipment, or a pair of frames that set you apart, there’s a good chance you’ll find it secondhand. Erika Veurink’s latest piece explores seven unexpected categories worth shopping preloved before buying new. The benefits? During my time in the Marine Corps, I learned that the team with the best firepower almost always wins. In the professional world, that firepower isn’t weapons—it’s the strength of our network, the people and organizations working together to create meaningful impact. For nearly four years, I’ve had the privilege of serving alongside dedicated community leaders on Congresswoman Young Kim’s Veteran Advisory Board. Through collaboration and shared commitment, the Tierney Center for Veteran Services has been able to advocate for and support countless veterans—not just within one district, but throughout all of Orange County. It’s a testament to what can be accomplished when organizations, leaders, and communities come together with a shared purpose. I’m grateful to be part of this mission, working alongside so many who are dedicated to ensuring veterans receive the resources and opportunities they deserve. #Veterans #Collaboration #Advocacy #Teamwork #Community #Service

Excited to celebrate #WomensHistoryMonth with our marketing and development team members from Goodwill of Orange County! We are enjoying the Leadership in Heels event hosted by the visionary Scharrell Jackson. We are sitting at our table that I named “Steadfast.” I love this word…. It represents the opportunity for women to have a big leadership impact in all sectors of our society because of the many women who were steadfast and unwavering in their mission for women to have a seat at every table! I was excited to visit Goodwill of Orange County this morning for a tour -- not only to learn more about this nonprofit that celebrated its 100th birthday last year -- but also to hopefully fit in some shopping, as well! As it turns out, I got so caught up in the tour, in meeting Nicole Suydam's beyond-amazing team (Danielle Sheets, Heather Marshall, Mayra R.) and in connecting with the other business and nonprofit leaders there that I completely forgot to shop! Did you know that Goodwill of Orange County not only invests in extensive training for its employees (which includes valuable soft skills training), but that it also has a unique "store within a store" on site where team members learn how to perform all the roles they will play in a retail store, including impeccable customer service? Did you know that Goodwill of Orange County, along with a number of Goodwill stores nationwide, has a shopping app that lets you browse exceptional finds -- from luxury goods to designer wares and more -- online? And that they will ship your in-app purchases to you? Did you know that Goodwill of Orange County pursues a sustainable model where no items go to waste, but rather are repurposed or recycled? Did you know that Goodwill of OC has an electronics store? Not only will they accept your electronic goods, they also will ensure that any hard drives are wiped for security purposes and will recycle any items or parts that they can't use to repair or refurbish other electronic goods? That's just a taste of what I learned today. I highly recommend that you register to book a tour with them when you can (link below). It's an fun, inspirational and informative hour well-spent! I always love supporting and learning more about the mission and vision of Goodwill of Orange County! This past week, we had the opportunity to interview, Jose Perez, Vice President of Human Resources at Goodwill. Through our Human Resources Management course at Vanguard University of Southern California, we are responsible for interviewing an HR professional and we could not have chosen a better candidate. We learned so much new knowledge and received so much wisdom from the wonderful Jose. I also had the chance of attending the ribbon cutting ceremony of Goodwill’s new donation center at the Farmers Market of Costa Mesa. I personally brought a bag of donations to the event. Goodwill is a current leader of innovation and change in Orange County and I’m excited to see all the great things and projects they continue to embark on.
