Earlier this month, alumni of our Construction and Trade Skills training program gathered for our 3rd Annual Goodwill Construction Skills Training Center Alumni Event. This year's gathering featured a unique twist?inspired by The Tonight Show. We proudly introduced our own "Trade Talk Tonight," creating a lively program that celebrated our partner employers, Goodwill team members, instructors, teaching assistants, and—most importantly—alumni of our training programs. This year’s event was a true success! With the Charlotte region being the second-largest banking center in the nation, Goodwill’s BankWork$? program is transforming lives and creating a new talent pipeline in financial services. In just 8 weeks, participants of this program gain the skills, confidence and coaching needed to succeed in banking careers. “Each completed cohort produces participants that are ready and prepared for careers in banking. The talent we have sourced through Goodwill has certainly strengthened our team,” shared Cathy T. Bonner, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion & Outreach Programs at Bank OZK. Since Fall 2023, four BankWork$ graduates have joined Bank OZK, with more hires on the horizon. While working as a Help Desk Specialist, Stephanie dreamed of advancing her career and achieving a better work-life balance without financial strain. ?? Our new and improved Career and Employment Center in Gastonia is officially open! Now located in downtown Gastonia at 359 W Main Ave, this larger, more accessible space is a one-stop destination to empower job seekers in Gaston County with free career support, job training and connections to local employers through GoodWork Staffing. ? ?? In 2023 alone, we helped more than 950 people in Gaston County advance their careers and lives. With updated classrooms, new technology and collaboration spaces, we’re ready to support even more success stories. ? ?? Every Tuesday, the Department of Social Services will be on-site from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. to assist with applications for food, childcare, Medicaid, utilities and unemployment benefits. Plus, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, drop in for resume workshops and get a professional review. Starting in 2025, this center will offer even more training programs, from personal branding workshops to Construction Basics training, and certifications like OSHA. ? ??
