Headquartered in Gorham, Maine, Goodwill NNE has a three-state service area comprised of Maine, New Hampshire and nine northern counties in Vermont. Our services include workforce training programs, 16 group homes that support adults with disabilities, active community supports for adults with disabilities, AmeriCorps programs, two brain injury clinics to help people get back to their lives after a brain injury and more. Goodwill NNE is more than *just* a store. We are good people doing good in our communities. Come work with us. We have a lot of fun. And we feel pretty good when we put our heads on the pillow at night.

As a young person freshly out of high school working in the logging industry, Olivia was ready to take the next step in her career. She wanted to become a logging truck driver. Having a learning disability and lack of financial support made this challenging. Olivia learned about Workforce Solutions from the community college system and decided to reach out. Workforce Solutions helped Olivia enroll in a CDL-A class and supported her with transportation costs to get to and from the class. Now she's completed the course and is one step closer to achieving her goal of a more rewarding, high-paying job. People have unique challenges and obstacles that can get in the way of achieving stability. Workforce Solutions recognizes this and helps folks overcome each challenge until they reach stability. It’s our mission to help people — like Olivia — achieve their work and life goals. Do you need help finding and maintaining employment? ?? Meet Helen! Helen sought a fresh start for her and her children upon returning to Maine. After being a stay-at-home mom for more than a decade, she was uncertain about her next steps. Helen met with the?Workforce Solutions?team and set a goal to work in finance. Helen looked for career resources at Fedcap, a workforce development organization, and they referred her to Workforce Solutions, operated by Goodwill NNE. It wasn’t long before?her career advisor?reached out, she said. “But right from the beginning, my career advisor helped me feel like things were going to be OK,” Helen said. Together they explored Helen’s interests and skills. Helen enjoyed handling her family’s finances in the past, so working in finance was a natural fit. Helen’s career advisor had a certification class in the works for her by their second meeting. Workforce Solutions supported Helen and encouraged her to find work she loves. Now she’s taking a course that will allow her to do tax work year-round. As she continues her career working in finance, Helen hopes to help and represent people who get into trouble with the IRS. “I’m really excited,” Helen said. “I’m going to be able to pass on the same kind of help and sense of security that Workforce Solutions helped me find.” Do you or someone you know need help finding and maintaining employment? Keeley Moseley lives with bipolar disorder, along with a few other comorbidities. Having a mental illness presents many challenges for Keeley in her personal life and work life. But it’s not all bad. Bipolar disorder taught Keeley to have empathy and compassion for others, she said. Join us in celebrating Goodwill employees who have disabilities during National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Keeley is a QA Program Coordinator for Goodwill. “The biggest thing I wish other people understood about those of us with disabilities is that we shouldn’t have limits imposed based on our barriers, rather we should be allowed to showcase our abilities,” Keeley said “I specifically use the language ‘living with’ vs ‘suffering from’ when I speak about my bipolar disorder because I’m not suffering. I’m living, and thriving, in fact, despite having a wonky brain. People with disabilities thrive when others stop looking at them as a disability and begin looking at them as the collection of their abilities.” Keeley said she works at Goodwill because to her, Goodwill is home. “Goodwill has provided me with the opportunities to grow in my career and has given me the flexibility to be wholly me,” she said. “I love working at a place where I am making a difference in the lives of others with disabilities and Goodwill gives me that sense of purpose and meaning that I need in my life.” NDEAM means celebrating diversity to Keeley. “Workers with disabilities are diverse, just like workers without disabilities,” Keeley said. “NDEAM is the month where we get to celebrate the talent and uniqueness that we bring to our employers and coworkers.” Thank you, Keeley, for all you do at Goodwill and for sharing your story! ?? Have you been served by Goodwill? Let us know how below. We’d love to hear YOUR #NDEAM story! #MoreThanJustAStore #GoodwillNNE #Nonprofit #DisabilityAwareness

“Goodwill accepted my challenge: Hire someone who can only work 15 hours a week. It took me 12 years to find an employer who could look past my disabling issues and focus on where I excel,” Stephanie said. “My job means everything to me: I am productive in society again; it gives me purpose & self-esteem; it allows me to be social; I give back to those who aren't yet able to accomplish their goals. I am an asset to this organization whose purpose is to ‘do good.’ I am grateful for the opportunities to meet other people from all walks of life. These people provide such vibrant colors to my life's mosaic.”? ? During National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we’re highlighting some of our amazing employees who have disabilities. Meet Stephanie, an E-Commerce sales associate for Goodwill. She’s been with Goodwill for over nine years.?? ?? Stephanie has a cognitive disorder and was diagnosed in her 30s. She has other unseen disabilities including Mild Gastroparesis, Anemia, and Fibromyalgia – which cause chronic fatigue.?? ? “You notice it when ‘washing machine’ falls off my tongue when we're talking about guacamole. I invert letters and words all the time; you'd call me dyslexic,” Stephanie said. “My involuntary jerky limbs cause all sorts of mayhem and mischief. I'm also diagnosed with Hypermobility Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD, and a lack of Fine Motor Skills.”? ? The Americans with Disabilities Act gives Stephanie the ability to be everything she can and wants to be, she said.?? ? “National Disability Employment Awareness Month lets me put a face to awareness. I prove that a diagnosis doesn't define a person,” she said. “Disability isn’t always dis-abling to life and are not always visible.”? ? Thank you for all you do at Goodwill and for sharing your story, Stephanie!??? ? Have you been served by Goodwill? Let us know how below. We’d love to hear YOUR #NDEAM story! #MoreThanJustAStore #GoodwillNNE #Nonprofit
