This article by Verge gives a brief history and overview of SEO. Although fun, we wouldn't say Google "perfected" the web. "Dominated" is the word we'd use. Google's dominance will be challenged as search becomes more AI-driven, siphoning views and advertising dollars from webmasters since users get answers without clicking. We're looking forward to a future where web designs ignore Googe's SEO, choosing to optimize for creativity and the user instead.
