For too long, consumers have had no voice when it comes to the food they eat. Big Food lobbies have made it difficult - if not impossible - to create meaningful progress in food transparency. Whether it’s misleading labels, hidden ingredients, or the way nutrition information is presented, the system isn’t built to prioritize public health. It’s built to protect the interests of the biggest food companies. That has to change. At GoodPop, we believe consumers deserve an organization that fights for them - one that demands real transparency in food labeling and holds companies accountable for what’s in their products. So we, along with some of our industry friends, decided to do something about it. We launched the Good Food Collective - the first natural food lobby advocating for consumers, real food, and true transparency around what we’re putting in our bodies. This will be an organization where responsible food companies and nutrition leaders join forces to push for change at the policy level. Instead of just reacting to Big Food’s influence, we’re fighting to be the voice consumers haven’t had. Better food shouldn’t be reserved for those who can read food labels with 0.5 font size or who shell out big bucks at designer grocery stores. It should be the standard for all of us. There’s a lot more to come in the next few weeks and months, and I can’t wait to share more! Shout out to Holly Adrien, who made this initiative possible, and Jaclyn London, MS, RD, CDN, Dan Gladden, Laura N Brown, MS, RDN, LDN, Justin Prochnow, and Jaclyn Bowen for your thoughts at the "Unpacking Front of Pack Nutrition Labels" Panel at this year's Expo! good-food-collective.com
