Aralez Bio and Resilience have secured a $17.5M award to fund innovative biomanufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients in the United States. This award was made by HHS Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) through the BioMaP-Consortium | Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Preparedness Consortium, a public-private partnership that aims to ensure the availability of life-saving medicines currently in drug shortage. The funding will enable cGMP manufacturing using Aralez Bio’s cutting-edge enzyme platform to streamline production of active pharmaceutical ingredients made within the United States, including submitting the necessary data to the FDA for Resilience to become an approved domestic API supplier. I’m incredibly proud to share that I was recently featured in The New York Times! It’s been an incredible journey raising over $20M for AOA Dx to advance ovarian cancer diagnostics, but the article also touches on some of the tougher realities of fundraising, especially for female founders. “Female-founded start-ups received 7 percent of pre-seed and seed funding, the earliest funding a start-up raises, in 2023, up from 5 percent in 2015, according to the data platform Crunchbase. For women-founded businesses seeking investments past a Series B round, typically the third funding round, the share of venture capital dollars contracted to 1 percent from 2 percent over the same period, according to Crunchbase.” While we’ve been lucky to have amazing support from many investors who truly believe in our mission, there’s still a long way to go to make sure more female founders have the same opportunity to raise the capital they need—especially beyond the early stages. The system needs to change, and I’m determined to help make that happen. We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a $4.5m SBIR Phase IIB grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). These funds will support our next stage of clinical development needed for regulatory approval and commercialization. We are enthusiastic about this new chapter and how this investment will further accelerate the delivery of our #noninvasive solution for white blood cell monitoring to the hands of #cancer patients.
