We are still feeling the energy, connection, and inspiration from this year’s Spring Institute! We were excited to host volunteer facilitators, educators, social workers, funeral directors, and mental health professionals who all came together to deepen their understanding of grief support and build meaningful connections. Standout moments included: ?? A deeply moving panel discussion featuring young adults and caregivers of grieving children, offering powerful insights into the real-life impact of support in our schools. ?? Dr. Schonfeld’s keynote struck the perfect balance of humor, expertise, and lived experience, leaving us informed and inspired. ?? Breakout sessions tailored for school staff, community organizations, mental health professionals, and our dedicated volunteer facilitators. ?? An awards ceremony honoring volunteers who have given 5, 10, and 15 years of service! ?? And one of our favorite reflections from a participant: “I feel so good in this space because I know I’m with my people.” ?? These moments remind us why grief support and education matter, because no one, and especially no child, should have to navigate loss alone. Good Grief’s Training & Outreach Manager, Gina Kornfeind, joined students and staff at Community Middle School in Plainsboro for a special morning of remembrance, honoring a student who passed away this past year. Organized by the Unified Grief Support (UGS) Club, the gathering provided a meaningful space for peers, faculty, and staff to reflect, remember, and support one another. The remembrance included: ?? A message from Good Grief ?? Shared reflections and memories ?? Creating a Memory Box ?? Writing messages on mini pickleball racquets (a favorite sport of the student) ?? Building memories with Legos (another cherished hobby) ?? A silent flower ceremony to honor the student and their grief journey Through tears, smiles, and connection, students found comfort in one another, reaffirming that grief deserves space, and no one should navigate it alone. The UGS Club, founded by 8th-grade students and their advisor, Dr. Rebecca McLelland-Crawley, is committed to ensuring students have a safe space to explore and process grief together. ?? On March 7, 2025, Good Grief was invited to participate alongside 600 educators and present at Insight Manville: EMPOWERing Educators at Manville High School. The day was filled with meaningful discussions on engagement, motivation, well-being, equity, and resilience; all key elements in supporting grieving students. Our session, "Healing Hearts: Utilizing Art to Help Process Grief," highlighted the power of creative expression in navigating loss. Through hands on activities and heartfelt conversations, we connected with educators dedicated to fostering grief informed classrooms.
