Connecting Children with Families and Keeping Families Connected

关于我们

The purpose of Good Shepherd Children & Family Services is to connect children with families and keep families connected by providing pregnancy and parenting support, foster care programs, and adoption services. Good Shepherd has been helping children and families for nearly 200 years, but you may know our work by other names. We merged to form Good Shepherd in 2006 from the four historic agencies of St. Joseph's Home & Family Services, Fr. Dunne's Home for Boys, Marian Hall/Villa Maria, and Catholic Services for Children & Youth, serving the poor, abandoned, abused, and neglected youth of the metropolitan St. Louis area and surrounding counties since 1836. Today, we continue the mission through four primary services: maternity care, foster care, expectant parent and pregnancy services, and adoption services.

  • Adoption Process Simplified Contact an Adoption Agency – When you call or text us at Good Shepherd, you can expect to learn all about the option of adoption from a compassionate non-judgmental adoption specialist, without any coercion. There are no fees for you in making an adoption plan for your child.?Supportive adoption counseling is free, and assistance in navigating the legal process of adoption, including working with an adoption attorney that represents you, is also free to you. Make an Adoption Plan – Your adoption plan is unique to you and your situation. You are the driver in the plan, determining the level of openness that you desire. You have the legal right to choose whether you want to name the birth father or not. You can receive assistance for needed birth parent living expenses. Choose Adoptive Parents – You have the ability to select adoptive parents that fit your desires, by looking at profile books and participating in match meetings, facilitated by the adoption agency. All adoptive parents have been vetted through an extensive home study process before becoming licensed to adopt. Birth – Before giving birth, adoption specialists help you create a hospital plan that honors your wishes regarding labor and delivery and the involvement of the adoptive family. Even if you’ve never met with an adoption agency before delivery to discuss adoption, it’s not too late. You can still choose adoption and contact an adoption agency. In the event that children’s division may become involved, a woman still has the right to choose to make a voluntary adoption plan, but she needs to call an adoption agency immediately to help facilitate her adoption decision. Relinquishment / Consent – Legal papers of consenting to adoption and transferring your parenting rights to the adoptive couple can happen no sooner than 48 hours after birth. An adoption attorney that represents you will meet with you to explain the legal paperwork and be present for the signing of your consents. Post Adoption Support – Adoption is complex and involves loss. Everyone grieves differently, and there are many ways to support birth mothers in healing and growth post-placement. Adoption specialists can provide counseling, connection to online/in-person support groups, books and journals specific to the birth mother experience, and support in continuing the ongoing connection with your child and his/her adoptive family.? . If you’re considering adoption, take your time, seek guidance, and remember that your feelings matter. There are compassionate specialists ready to walk this journey with you. Call or text us anytime, 314-724-8417.

  • “We met in college and were best friends for 10 years before we began dating. We have been married for 14 years and have two girls, an 11 year old and an 8 year old.?Lenny and Mariana’s first language was Spanish, and both girls are fluent in both as well. Our faith is very important to us and is the basis and foundation of all we do. We are very involved in our church and our church family plays a huge part in our everyday lives. We love spending time with our family and friends, and we love hanging out at home, playing games, watching movies, and just spending time together as a family.??We want you to know that we will honor you and make sure your child knows what you have done for him or her. We want to also honor and respect what level of openness you are comfortable with and will always work together with you on what is best. We will love your child with all of our hearts, and they will always be able to count on loving parents and siblings.” – Lenny and Mariana
