Beyond Equality

Civic and Social Organizations

Engaging men and boys in workplaces, universities and schools so that they can rethink masculinities and create change.

About us

When it comes to talking about gender inequality at work, more often than not, men are not seen as part of the solution. But the gender pay gap, workplace sexual harassment, maternity discrimination, and unfair hiring & promotion practices will not be overcome by women simply trying harder nor by women “leaning in”. Men must be part of this change. But how? Engaging men in conversations about gender equality can seem daunting - there are lots of potential crossed-wires, insensitivities and awkward language that can make it feel like it’s too much of a minefield to be worth taking on in the first place. And often men don’t see the ways that they too can significantly benefit from more equal and inclusive workplaces. We know that half of the battle is getting past men feeling defensive or like masculinity is under attack. That’s where we come in. --- Beyond Equality runs equality, inclusion and masculinites workshops with men and boys in schools, universities and workplaces.

How many men are looking for the chance to talk? How much would change, for them, their families and our society, if we opened these spaces? Highlights from a Beyond Equality mini-conference exploring the powerful work being done in the UK and abroad to open up spaces for men to support each other as they process emotions, heal and help create safer and more supportive communities. With a special guest keynote from Aotearoa (New Zealand), She Is Not Your Rehab, discussed their powerful work running men's groups, creating space where men can process trauma, and be part of healing intergenerational cycles of violence. ?? Featuring Dr Daniel Guinness (Beyond Equality), Matteo & Sarah Brown (She Is Not Your Rehab), Dr Sanah Ahsan & Alex Holmes. Next month is International Women’s Day/Week/Month and so here at Beyond Equality we’re doing our part in contributing to this conversation. We are THRILLED to announce our upcoming online panel event with Jackson Katz, Ph.D. Join us for an insightful and action-driven discussion with world-renowned violence prevention educator Jackson Katz, Ph.D. as he delves into his groundbreaking new book, Every Man. He will be joined by Beyond Equality’s Ambassador Gina Martin, Managing Director Daniel Guinness, PhD and Director of Facilitation Ben Hurst with the conversation chaired by Head of Workplaces Kasey Robinson. This event is open to all but is especially valuable for men looking to understand their role in fostering change. Every Man is a powerful call to action, offering practical tools for men to step up as allies, challenge harmful behaviours, and become active participants in ending gender-based violence. Dr. Katz’s decades of experience in education and activism provide an urgent and compelling framework for transforming attitudes, cultures, and behaviours. Through this conversation, Beyond Equality continues its mission to rethink masculinities, create gender equity, and build safer, more inclusive communities. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the solution. Through the support of Penguin Random House we will be giving away 5 copies of Every Man to our audience. Check our Instagram page to enter. This Women’s Day Campaign by Forsman & Bodenfors and Beyond Equality is a powerful way to shift perspectives. ‘See What She Sees’ takes something as simple as raising a glass for a cheers and flips it into a much darker and true reality, the fear many woman have of being spiked. The split screen design makes you stop and really think about how the same moment can feel completely different depending on who you are. This kind of bold marketing creates real conversation around things that actually matter?? #WomensDay #SeeWhatSheSees #PurposeDrivenMarketing

  • ?? Same world, different experience. At Beyond Equality, we work to engage men in creating a more equal world—and that starts with awareness. Our 2025 #IWD campaign with Forsman & Bodenfors LDN began with a now-viral moment between Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal on The Graham Norton Show, revealing a reality women navigate daily—but many men rarely consider: even ordinary objects can become tools for protection when safety isn’t guaranteed. Our research reveals the reality: ?? 7 in 10 women worry about being followed or harassed when alone in public. ?? 65% of women say safety fears limit their social and professional participation. ?? More than six in ten women experience poor mental health due to these concerns. Men can be part of the solution. The first step is understanding—recognising how these experiences shape women’s daily lives. The next step is action—using your voice, your choices, and your influence to create safer, more equal spaces. This #IWD, we’re calling on men to step into this reality and take responsibility. Because being a ‘good guy’ isn’t just about what you don’t do—it’s about what you do. ?? • Spiking. Harassment. The constant worry that comes with a night out. Women know this reality too well—while many men don’t notice it at all. #SeeWhatSheSees is our latest campaign with Forsman & Bodenfors LDN, designed to help men understand how much women modify their lives for safety. From gripping keys tightly at night to choosing seats strategically on public transport—these everyday actions aren’t choices, they’re necessities. And yes, keeping an eye on your drink, always. By seeing what she sees, men can step up and take action. Because safer nights out aren’t just about women protecting themselves—they’re about men being part of the solution. ?? As a woman, I don’t just think about my safety—I plan for it. It’s instinctual, ingrained by experience and shared stories. Keys between my fingers. Fake phone calls. Sharing my live location. Scanning every street for exits, staying hyper-aware of who’s around me. These aren’t just habits; they’re survival tactics. Real change isn’t possible unless men are part of the conversation. That’s why I’m also grateful for the men in my life who listen, advocate, and step up. The ones who check in, speak out, and make space for safety. And sometimes, it’s the small, quiet actions of strangers that make all the difference—a man crossing the street so I don’t feel followed, a friend making sure we get home safe, a bystander choosing to intervene. That’s why being part of www.seewhatshesees.com with Beyond Equality and Forsman & Bodenfors LDN was so important to me. Because safety shouldn’t be a personal responsibility—it should be a shared priority. And the more people who see what we see, the more we can change. It takes all of us. Thank you to our partners for making this happen: Goodstuff KWT Global National Research Group

  • ?? 1 in 2 British women feel most unsafe on public transport. That’s what the International Women’s Day Attitudes to Safety survey revealed—highlighting a daily reality that too many have to navigate. For millions, commuting isn’t just about getting from A to B—it’s a constant calculation for safety. Choosing where to sit, standing strategically, gripping keys between fingers, pretending to be on a call. At Beyond Equality, we’re working to challenge men to see this reality, understand the everyday safety concerns women face, and step up as allies—while recognising that men have their own safety concerns too. ?? Introducing our latest campaign with Forsman & Bodenfors LDN, to mark International Women's Day 2025. ?? 1 in 2 women say public transport is the place they feel most unsafe. ?? 6 in 10 men believe safety concerns are sometimes exaggerated. ?? But 95% of men agree they share equal responsibility in ensuring women’s safety. Women instinctively navigate the world with safety in mind—while many men, even the 'good guys', may not fully see or understand the daily calculations women make to feel safe, even if they have their own different safety concerns. See What She Sees is a campaign designed to help men understand how women alter their lives for safety. By seeing what she sees, men can recognise where to take action. ?? It’s time to see the world differently. Visit www.SeeWhatSheSees.com to learn more. Huge thanks to all the many media owners who have donated valuable space and our campaign partners at Stagwell: National Research Group Goodstuff KWT Global
