NEW SPECIAL EPISODE! Does all of this chat about systems #collapse inspire people? Or does it alienate more people than it galvanises? The inspiration for this end-of-year impromptu gathering came from a recent flurry of ‘Collapse'-inspired exchanges! This was prompted largely by Ginie Servant-Miklos’ recently published and brilliant book, 'Pedagogies of Collapse: A Hopeful Education for The End of The World as We Know It' (https://lnkd.in/eJYRRdRR) and Will Richardson’s equally provocative and inspiring, 'Confronting Education In a Time of Complexity, Chaos and Collapse' (https://lnkd.in/gFwc8sVw). So Ginie Servant-Miklos, Will Richardson, Ra?sa Mirza and Manda Scott got together to share some stories and reflections with Tim Logan! Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/eZSc9w85 FYI Alexander Beiner your book gets a lovely quote from Manda! Developing education everywhere for people to love learning and cultivate meaning. Podcaster @Future Learning Design. Team @Good Impact Labs. Co-Lead @IB FestivalofHope.

This is a topic very close to my heart, as I believe we HAVE to be able to connect in genuine ways with openness and humility if we're ever going to get anywhere with the work of deep change that is so needed. Doline is modelling this in incredible ways - it was an absolute joy to chat with her about it! ??

NEW EPISODE! In our efforts to be inclusive and make sure everyone feels a sense of belonging, do we avoid 'hot' topics for risk of offending people? Are we over-protecting our young people from the challenges and discomforts of grappling with these sensitive but critical topics as part of their learning? The brilliant Doline Ndorimana certainly is not! She has been personally and professional creating spaces for these kinds of generative conversations for a long time and is still learning a lot along the way. As Doline says, the young people "love it! The growth is amazing!" And she models it herself too! ?? ?? This week on the podcast, Doline chats with Tim about the conversational alternatives to simply becoming the prosecutor, the preacher or the politician. Surely we can do better than that, as we seek to gather differently and learn in more relational ways! It takes courage, humility and a genuine openness to mutual learning! Do we have what it takes?! NEW EPISODE! In contrast to all of the support for new parents, often the 'best' advice given to parents & teachers of adolescents is it's "gonna be painful, get your head down and get through it!" And yet, these are some of the most important and magical transforming years of a young person's life! This week we're so happy to have Christopher Balme with us, who has refused to accept this and devoted his life to engaging with parents and creating schools that honour this "heroic journey" through adolescence! ?? Check out the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/ezejZ23Y And check out Chris' fantastic book, 'Finding the Magic in Middle School: Tapping Into the Power and Potential of the Middle School Years'.

Connecting and amplifying global changemakers and educators so together we can create positive social impact ??

?? Next week, I’ll be attending the UN Summit for the Future in NYC. ?? The UN is calling this Summit a once-in-a-generation opportunity to mend eroded trust and prove that international cooperation can still work. Together, world leaders will adopt the Pact for the Future, which includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations. Will this make a difference? I’m not sure yet. BUT I do believe this reset is needed. And?I plan to do my part in driving change. While there we'll launch The Your Voice, Your Future International Youth Summit an official UN side event for the Action Days of the UN Summit of the Future. We expect participation from over 1000 youth from across the globe. This initiative is led by United Nations International School students in collaboration with the IB Festival of Hope. This is an event created by youth for youth, and I couldn't be more inspired by the United Nations International School student team who has been working on this all summer. Also, thrilled to have our IB Festival of Hope #1 bestie Ziad Ahmed back to inspire attendees during the opening. If you're a young person sign up for the Youth Voice Summit! Link in comments. While in NYC my colleague Ziyaan Virji and I will join together with representatives from Member States, civil society, private sector, academia, youth, and many more to attend and participate in the Action Days at the UN Headquarters. In our day-to-day work Tim Logan and I regularly reflect on a difficult truth. That, despite all the hope, positivity and action we strive to create for a better future we see the world falling behind on the many goals we all collectively set, and that the pace of change is leaving too many people behind—especially the most vulnerable. Perhaps next week, this summit can be an opportunity for our leaders across the globe to face some hard truths about our systems and shift course to forge a more equitable path to ensure progress benefits everyone. If you’re attending next week, message me and let’s connect! #ourcommonfuture #youthlead

Connecting and amplifying global changemakers and educators so together we can create positive social impact ??

Attended a session today by the The World Bank around their latest report titled *Education for Climate Action*. The report highlights a critical but underused tool in the fight against climate change—**education**. 1?? **Education as a Catalyst**: Education is the strongest predictor of climate change awareness. Yet only 1.5% of climate finance goes to education. By channeling more funds into education, we can reshape mindsets, drive innovation, and accelerate climate mitigation and adaptation. 2?? **Climate Change Risks to Education**: Climate change is disrupting education systems, especially in low-income countries. On average, low-income countries lost 18 days of schooling per year due to climate-related school closures. Without urgent action, these disruptions will deepen learning deficits. 3?? **Youth Demand Climate Action**: 79% of youth in low- and middle-income countries believe their country is in a climate emergency. Yet, gaps in information and skills slow down climate action. Addressing these gaps through education is critical. Why should policymakers invest in green education in climate action? The report highlights global green transitions would require skilled workers for an estimated **100 million** new jobs in the years to come. Thank you to the authors Sergio Venegas Marin Shwetlena Sabarwal and others who pulled this together. Andrew Jack nice job moderating the session. https://lnkd.in/dVMZRN9Q

When I started the Future Learning Design podcast four years ago, I thought I was talking about innovations in education, shifts in pedagogy, curriculum and teacher training. I've now realised that's not what I'm doing at all. Alongside Jennifer Bahrami, as part of Good Impact Labs, and with some of the most incredible people we've had the chance to get to know over the last few years, what we're actually doing is helping to describe, support, sustain and contribute to these ecological and relational shifts. ?? ?? ?? Here's a short piece I wrote, noticing some of patterns of what we're seeing in education.

Today's a big day for the podcast! The last few years with the fantastic NoTosh team have been amazing. A massive thanks to Ewan McIntosh and the rest of the gang for all of the learning and a lot of fun! But the time has come for the podcast to stretch its wings and fly the nest! Jennifer Bahrami and Tim Logan have been working together on a global youth initiative since June 2022 and during this time they’ve seen the power of people building and creating, which is why they’ve created Good Impact Labs to unleash possibilities and bridge, amplify and connect amazing entrepreneurs and committed citizens all over the world, who are no longer waiting for broken formal educational institutions to be reformed. They are designing and building their own local responses with relationships at their core. The podcast will be a core part of this on-going exploration, as they continue to unleash possibilities with young people all over the globe through #FestivalofHope on behalf of the IB.
