We are very excited to be expanding our team this month!!! Please join us in sharing a warm welcome for our new Chief of Staff, Emma Claye and our new AI Policy and Research Director, Hugo Cantu! Both native Marylanders, we are excited about the wealth of expertise they bring to our organization. Emma Claye hails from Beltsville, MD with a B.S. in Biology from University of Maryland, College Park, and a Master's of Public Health from Yale University. This New York-based multihyphenate previously served as Technical Expert on COVID-19 Diagnostics, working with the NYC Department of Mental Health and Hygeine and leaders across New York City to provide testing for thousands of people per day during the pandemic, prepare testimony, and help inform the city's public policy during the COVID-19 crisis. Community-minded, she spent 6 years with the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission developing and leading comprehensive programs for local playgrounds, camps, and aftercare facilities. A multi-talented multi-tasker, Emma is also a talented singer-songwriter who performs regularly around New York City, most notably touring in Hamilton as Peggy/Elizabeth Schuyler. Hugo Cantu has extensive experience in policy, serving as policy director to a Prince George’s County Council Chair and senior legislative aide to a Montgomery County Councilmember. Hugo also has experience in the Maryland General Assembly,?having worked as a policy staffer for a State Delegate serving in the Ways and Means and Economic Matters Committee. ? He graduated in May 2020 with a B.A. in Public Policy and a minor in Real Estate Development. Cantu also holds an associate's degree in Business Administration from Montgomery College. In his time at the University of Maryland, Cantu was a founder of the UMD public policy professional fraternity, Kappa Omega Alpha, served on the Presidential Transfer Committee for President Darryl Pines.?His passion for public policy has intertwined with his curiosity of artificial intelligence (AI), especially as policymakers grapple with the realities of racial biases, privacy and security concerns, while balancing the need to support local innovation and economic opportunity. Find out more about them and get their contact information so you can reach out directly to our new team members here: https://lnkd.in/ea7rCsrc

Good Governance Consulting has launched the Beta version of our AI Legislative Assistant. We need your help to improve. Data gathered will help me best understand what kind of questions are out there, and to have data sets to fact check against and get a better understanding of its accuracy. Do not use professionally as we are still working out the kinks. https://lnkd.in/eqfPEpR2 #ai #prototype #governmentrelations #maryland
Beta version of the AI Maryland Legislative Assistant is running if anyone wants to try it out. Me and the machine need more questions to learn from so I can make it as helpful as possible. Organizations and individuals willing to give direct feedback and be part of the market research, reach out to [email protected] https://lnkd.in/eR7Q7hnV

Great media this past week on why local elections matter. Featuring one of our favorite clients the Prince George's County Circuit Court sitting Judges slate. This Primary Election has been focused on voter education and outreach. Many times people do not know their 'down ballot' candidates as well as the top of the ticket. Getting to know a usually non-political candidate of the third branch is foreign to many voters, but also why the outreach and engagement really made an impact. Supporting local, community-driven, fair and balanced candidates who actually have an impact on the issues that matter - justice, women's rights, divorces and family law, orphans court, appeals, public safety, juvenile sentencing - is part of why I do this work. Looking forward to seeing the election results come out over the next few hours. #maryland #elections #circuitcourt https://lnkd.in/ehT8fHX2

Our Founder and CEO Johntel Greene looks back on the past 2 months since starting Good Governance Consulting, and the community of relationships it takes to get to this point.
Since starting Good Governance Consulting this past January, I have been so busy doing the work, that I have not had time to post about it. I want to start by thanking my first two clients - Sister State of Maryland Inc. and Tony Perez of La Perez Consulting to support the Prince George's County Municipal Association. I took a leap of faith starting my own business. I knew I wanted to work at the intersections - areas that often work in tandem but lack efficient and effective channels of communication, understanding, and shared strategies. Areas where the ideas are called different names but the underlying processes are the same (I'm looking at you Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, Change Management, Design Thinking aka iterations of the Scientific Method created to serve specific purposes). With my unusual resume that has depth in local government and international issues while skiping over national issues; which juxtaposes policy with operations, change management with campaigns and community engagement, non-profit fundraising with appropriations at the State level, social issues, and workforce development. These are the intersections where I live, and where somehow I have managed to find clients and work that benefit from my smorgasbord of lived and professional experience. Thanks to them for taking a leap of faith on me and my work. I have been able to help run an international legislative reception for Sister States that was a 'raving success' according to all, work with my partner in crime Jonathan P. Brown to represent gorgeous Prince George County's cities and towns to the State and County, act as project director on grant linking Black Marylanders and civil rights movements around the world, and so many more opportunities coming up that I can't help but be glad for everyone who has taken a chance - past Johntel for deciding and trusting that an International MBA + state policy background made perfect sense, my network and mentors like Jacqueline Greer who is always a source of advice, and a whole host of people who I don't want to over tag here but some have gone above and beyond like Margot Hoerrner, Asheesh M., Tirza Buelto, NLP, CSM?, Enoch Edmond who have been there to offer advice, share their experiences consulting, make a connection for me, give a CPA recommendation, etc. It really does take a village. Special shoutout to the Art Of Crochet Project for letting me test my consulting pro bono on them last year to build this confidence. #goodgovernanceconsulting #ggc #consulting #thankyou #startup #newbusiness #womenownedbusiness #minorityownedbusiness
