“When folks are arrested, it’s like entering a black hole,” said Jelani Anglin in an interview with BK Reader. “They have no idea what’s happening, and their family has no idea where they are. The time of being arrested is make or break,” Anglin said. “You could be coerced into signing a statement under duress. We just want to make sure we’re here, and we have the city’s back.” Check out Good Call CEO Jelani Anglin interview with the BKReader! We had an amazing time at Fast Forward Alumni Retreat! We had the privilege of connecting with other tech non-profit leaders, engaging in thought-provoking panels, and enhancing our skills through various training sessions. It provided a fantastic platform for connection and learning especially while attempting to do community driven work under this administration!

In 2024, Good Call NYC didn’t just show up. They showed out. What started as a hotline to connect New Yorkers with legal support has grown into a lifeline for communities navigating a broken system. Some stats from their 2024 impact report: ?????? 300+ families empowered through Know Your Rights workshops, gaining the tools to safeguard their rights and uphold their dignity during police encounters ?? Thousands of calls answered via a 24/7 hotline (because justice doesn’t keep office hours) ?? More than 50 workshops hosted in areas of financial literacy, work readiness, civic engagement, and social justice Good Call is rewriting what’s possible in neighborhoods too often overlooked, putting those directly impacted by the justice system at the center of the fight for change. 2025? It’s about building on this momentum, doubling down on systemic change, and making sure no one faces the justice system alone. Check out their impact report here:?https://lnkd.in/gJ7PHJxf
