A not for profit, labor innovation lab. We design and evaluate to disseminate and scale.

关于我们

We design, test, and scale programs using rigorous research methods, that align worker wellbeing with business interests. We work across a worker's employment journey from unlocking female labor to closing the skill gap, improving job quality, and improving health conditions. Businesses, because of their scale, hold immense potential to drive social change, while staying true to their principles. However, narratives that reduce the business of business to business, as seen traditionally, foster conventional rather than innovative ways of doing business. For instance, they seclude investment in worker wellbeing programs as mere philanthropy. And while worker wellbeing programs are plenty, they aren’t achieving the scale they should. This is because there is not enough research backing the return on investment they generate for businesses. We are working to solve such problems. We want to break the limited notion of business and help scale impactful worker wellbeing programs, through rigorous research. Because that, we believe, is the future of business – good business.

In 2023, GBL joined Social & Labor Convergence Program as a signatory, committing to improving global supply chains through data-driven decisions that enhance worker wellbeing while delivering measurable business benefits. At SLCP’s General Assembly, our co-founder Anant Nyshadham delivered a keynote address on “Data quality and Integrity”, highlighting two critical aspects of high-quality data practices: 1. High-quality data must be accurate, timely, and reflective of diverse worker realities while identifying common challenges to enable responsive action. 2. Implementing such data practices delivers significant benefits for businesses—optimizing resource use, enhancing operational efficiency, meeting ESG standards, and achieving greater supply chain visibility.

Saving money is essential for the financial health and security of workers in developing countries. As our planet warms, the impacts extend beyond the environment, affecting both human health and livelihoods. For millions of daily wage workers, rising temperatures mean escalating heat stress, threatening their wellbeing and productivity. At Good Business Lab, we believe that addressing climate change requires a people-centric approach. In our first climate project, we tackled a critical yet often overlooked issue: the impact of heat stress on factory workers. Our research revealed a crucial insight: Beyond the heat threshold of 85°F (29.4°C), the effect on the human body is very clear — Mental abilities start slowing down and physiologically, bodies get tired faster. ??To address this challenge, we partnered with a leading garment manufacturer to explore a simple but innovative solution—switching to LED lights to reduce workplace temperatures Conducted across 16 factories and with over 15,000 garment workers, The results showed significant benefits beyond energy savings. ?? Swipe to discover how climate, labor, and the economy are interlinked. In the face of climate change, every degree matters—and so does every blue-collar worker. Stay tuned as we continue to explore solutions for sustainable, worker-friendly environments in a changing climate.
