Thanks to Heather Warnken, John Maki and The Joyce Foundation for this valuable and insightful session on efforts and opportunities to reduce community harm and strengthen public safety by increasing equitable access to CVI funding. The Joyce Foundation will feature the deck and related links on their Web site shortly for interested folks who may have missed the discussion.
Join us and researchers John Maki and Heather Warnken for an important discussion on strategies for sustaining and expanding Community Violence Intervention (CVI) funding. With the unprecedented rise in CVI investments, researchers will discuss balancing these efforts with policing and other long standing public safety institutions. This session will also cover effective strategies for accessing public funding for survivors through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Crime Victim Compensation Program. ?? Mark calendars! A week from today, Attorneys Danielle Hendrickson and Camila Pacheco-Fores of our Immigration Law Project are hosting a live stream! They will share details of a new federal program for immigrant spouses of U.S. citizens. The program starts Aug. 19 and aims to provide a citizenship pathway for noncitizen spouses. If this is you, (or someone you know, have them) attend our webinar at noon, Thursday, Aug. 8 on YouTube (Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid) and Facebook (@ LegalAid). We'll tell folks how to apply and how to spot scams that might confuse this legitimate federal program with fake programs that may try to steal the money, identity and peace of mind of would-be applicants. See flyer details in English and Spanish! https://bit.ly/3Ynk8ky

Jaleel Stallings has directly experienced many systemic issues within our legal system. A survivor of police brutality who was also falsely accused of attempted murder, he knows the harsh impact inflicted on the lives of Americans who trust the system to deliver justice. Jaleel is using his experience to make our communities safer for everyone. He founded Good Apple Initiative to collaborate with "good apples" in public safety and our courts, and in the communities they serve. Learn more, and pledge to support our collaborative approach at WeAreGoodApples.org.
