STOP SELLING WITH SLIDES On discovery calls. Before you slam your laptop (or me) – hang tight. We analyzed 803,402 sales meetings and found a negative correlation between the use of slides in discovery meetings and the likelihood of earning a follow-up call. Now, we’re not suggesting you evict slides from your sales process. But it’s bad for discovery specifically. Here’s why: When you share slides, you move from a conversation to a presentation. Presentations are about delivered information, but successful discovery calls are about exchanging information. In other words, your buyer wants to be heard. YOUR SALES SECRET WEAPON Team selling. Here’s why: 1. It builds trust: When a rep invests time in a deal, it shows they care about more than a fast sale. They care about the customer relationship and solving pain points. 2. Experts build credibility: You know your offering inside out. But your product managers? They’re experts. There’s no one more credible when it comes to technical questions, so bring them in. 3. Investing gives you a competitive edge: Not every sales org invests the resources (time and experts) you put in. Use team selling to set yourself apart and build deeper connections with your customers. So if you’re selling alone, you’re leaving money on the table. It’s time to bring in the team. BEST COLD CALL OPENER “How’ve you been?” We were surprised too (at first). It works because it’s a pattern interrupt. It breaks the normal cold call examples we’re taught to expect. Like the standard (and dreaded) question: “Can I have a minute of your time?” Instead of defaulting to “not interested,” they’ll hang on to your call just a little longer. Gong Labs data proves it.
