#FBF Today marks the 36th anniversary of the life celebration for Mexican architect and engineer, Luis Barragan. Recipient of the Pritzker Prize in 1980, Barragan was most know for his playful use of color in his contemporary designs including his home and studio. #TBT On this day in the year 1964, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge opened as the world's longest suspension bridge at the time. In collaboration with urban planner Robert Moses, engineer David B. Steinman's design connected Staten Island to Brooklyn and didn't come to life until twenty years after its inception. #FBF 1630 - Nathan Gillette sailed from England to Massachusetts Bay colony two generations after his French Huguenot ancestors sought refuge in England. 1855 - King Camp Gillette is born on January 5th in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. 1871 - King's family survives the Great Chicago Fire after relocating to Illinois where he was raised. 1894 - King moves to Boston, MA to work as a salesman for Crown Cork and Seal Company. 1901 - September 28th, King is founder of the American Safety Razor Company. 1902 - The company's name is changed to Gillette Safety Razor Company. 1903 - Production of disposable razors begins. 1904 - King Camp Gillette obtains a patent for the Gillette disposable razor blade. #MassHistory #Gillette #LocalHistory #BostonEntepreneurship #FlashbackFriday #BostonBusinessHistory #DirtyWater
