关于我们
The Goldman Environmental Prize supports individuals struggling to win environmental victories against the odds and inspires ordinary people to take extraordinary actions to protect the world. The Goldman Environmental Prize was created in 1990 by civic leaders and philanthropists Richard N. Goldman and his wife, Rhoda H. Goldman. Both founders are deceased, and their children now lead the Board of Directors. The Goldman Environmental Prize winners are selected by an international jury from confidential nominations submitted by a worldwide network of environmental organizations and individuals. Prize winners participate in a 10-day tour of San Francisco and Washington, D.C., for an awards ceremony and presentation, news conferences, media briefings, and meetings with political, public policy and environmental leaders.

?? Reconnection ?? This past week, our team reunited with Goldman Environmental Prize winner Bobby Peek in San Francisco. Bobby won the #GoldmanPrize in 1998 when he united his racially divided community and succeeded in closing illegal toxic dumps in south Durban, a highly industrialized, contaminated community in South Africa. ?? For the past 25 years, Bobby has continued to champion environmental justice in South Africa. His organization, groundWork, partners with affected communities to resist dirty #energy and toxic production. The team focuses on building solidarity and local alliances, advocating for open debate and democratic control of energy, waste, and health. Bobby was in town to attend the 2025 Global Philanthropy Forum and meet with various partners to move the needle on a just energy transition. ?? Thank you to Bobby and the groundWork team for your dedication! A hearty congratulations on 25 years of impactful work and advocacy. Learn more about groundWork here: https://groundwork.org.za/

Last week, our team at the Goldman Environmental Prize got our hands dirty with the Presidio Habitat Stewards. ?????? Guided by the team at Presidio Trust and AmeriCorps fellows, our staff planted native grasses on a hillside in San Francisco's Presidio. At the end of the morning, our team was in agreement—it felt good to get outside, get moving, and take tangible action to better our parks. We left feeling recharged and ready to get back to work. The Golden Gate National Parks Volunteer Program is a cooperative effort of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, National Park Service, and Presidio Trust. Mongabay reports that the administration’s decision to halt USAID and freeze foreign aid imperils conservation projects around the world. ?? #GoldmanPrize winner Rudi Putra (Indonesia, 2014) shares that his organization, which monitors Indonesia’s Leuser Ecosystem, a biodiversity rich rainforest, has already had to reduce its patrol teams. “The biggest impact is on patrols because most of our patrol teams are funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,†Rudi reflected. “This funding supports orangutans, rhinos and elephants, so with the funding cut, our patrol teams have been reduced.†Read the article: https://bit.ly/3QIwtuF ?? // Leuser Conservation Forum
