Every pet therapy visit is unique, yet they all share the incredible power of bringing joy and companionship to patients and their families. Time and again, we hear how the therapy dog visits made a real difference during their stay at Children's National Hospital, adding a spark of happiness during challenging times. We hope that outstanding programs like this continue to spread and become a staple in more hospitals in the years to come.
Sometimes a smile can make all the difference ?? Ellie and Emma are therapy dogs and part of the?Children's National Hospital?pet therapy team, which comprises over 20 volunteer dog teams and two facility dogs. Last year, this program provided 9,443 animal visitations, bringing comfort and joy to patients and their families. Normally we don’t create content when we’re in the hospital, but we wanted to show you firsthand the impact of these visits. It’s truly remarkable to see how the pet therapy program is making a real difference at Children’s National.?

This was another full-circle moment! ?? Ten years ago, while deployed as an Army Chinook pilot, I saw first-hand the benefits of animal-assisted interventions. This experience inspired Katie and I to get Ellie and start our Mission to Spread Smiles?. Recently, we had the opportunity to spread smiles with the Army Aviation Soldiers of?the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Thank you for all that you do. We appreciate you!
