When Watford City (ND) High School student Kollin Klang started working at restaurant Twist 2.0 in 2022, he never could have predicted his summer food service job would eventually lead to a career-focused cooperative work experience. Now a senior, Klang is working as a business and marketing employee for Farmers Union Oil Company, the cooperative that owns the restaurant and drive-thru. In fact, Farmers Union created the work-based learning (WBL) experience for him, impressed with his customer service skills, work ethic, and enthusiasm. Read how Klang's experience is helping him prepare for college and his future career in marketing. https://lnkd.in/g8BRKfFb

We’re honored to present at the ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2024 Conference in early December in San Antonio, TX. Patrick will join Dawn Ulmer (NDCTE) and Gwen Marsh (XAP) to discuss how they overcame barriers to provide a statewide collaborative work-based learning system for students. Mineer will also present at an event prior to the conference when Grand Forks (ND) Public Schools is honored as a finalist with the Career Z Challenge, a national competition that recognizes innovative ways organizations are helping students prepare for the future. He will share how Golden Path’s work is used by the Grand Forks team for work-based learning. This prominent career and technical education conference will be attended by thought leaders from across the country. Check out more at www.careertechvision.com.

One of the best ways we can improve our career exploration and workforce development software and services is by hearing from all of you – and that’s exactly what we did at recent trainings in North Dakota. More than 100 North Dakota school professionals attended our advanced RUReady.ND.gov and Compass training sessions last month across the state. During our sessions, we heard several repeated messages from educators as to how we can best support them in their use of Compass and RUReady for student career exploration. From continuing to strengthen communication between user groups to finding new ways to make processes even more streamlined, we received excellent feedback. Another great day with educators, school professionals, and employers during our last training on career exploration, Compass, and RUReady in Fargo. We were visited by Frank Matus with Thales and David Terfehr with TrueNorth Steel, where they shared information about their amazing organizations, the work they're doing in the region, and their future workforce needs. Incredible opportunities. As we wrap up our training across the state, we've heard some from some amazing organizations in addition to Thales and TrueNorth, including ONEOK, Creedence Energy Services, Baker Boy, Executive Air Taxi Corporation, Trinity Health, Mowbray & Son Plumbing & Heating, Inc. Bismarck State College, ISight Drone Services, and the Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation. Thanks to all of our employers for spending time connecting with school professionals who are on the front line of workforce development, and for your partnership with us. Special thanks to Laura Glasser with CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION, NORTH DAKOTA DEPT OF for putting up with Patrick!

Thank you to Tom K (Tommy) Kenville with ISight Drone Services and Becca Cruger with the Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation for spending time with regional educators and school professionals during training today in Grand Forks! It was great hearing about your work, how you support schools and students, and what you're looking for in future workforce in the region and specifically the drone industry. Much appreciated!

This is great news for our regional schools. As we do our work, we're seeing more and more collaboration between post-secondary colleges, employers, and K12 schools, including the development of innovative programs that provide more opportunities and pathways for students. We're also seeing more collaboration than ever between employers and schools (both K12 and post-secondary) really lasering in on the skills our future workforce will need, and how to get students those skills on a timeline that meets their goals. Add on top of that the innovative programs that help cover tuition costs and it's no surprise that enrollments are stronger than they've been. Great news for our region! https://lnkd.in/gsRtFCa5
