Exciting news came late yesterday. We got our registered trademark. It has been about 18 months of waiting, but now it is official. Is it required to run a business? Probably not. Does it make me feel better about building a brand? Yes. What do you all think? Did you do this for your business?

Last evening, I was sitting at a special place in Madison, the Memorial Union Terrace. I was sitting with some friends, when we realized a lot of our big life events have circled around that location. When I question why I still live in my hometown, this is one of those reasons. Happy National Dog Day!! If you've met me in person, you know I'm a dog person... and a cat person too! On National Dog Day, I thought I would share the story of my dog Wendy because it is a unique one. Wendy came from Shanghai China. She was flown to the US by an organization called China Dog Rescue in partnership with the Golden Retriever Rescue of WI (GRRoW). Wendy was found at a police impound in Shanghai after being captured as a runaway. During that time, many Chinese residents were letting their dogs go loose due to government concerns about the spread of COVID-19. We can only speculate, that is what happened with Wendy. She arrived in Chicago after a 30 hour trip in a cargo plane in a kennel with no breaks. You can imagine her condition- messy, hungry, thirsty and tired. She was very thin. She arrived with her very own Chinese passport! The state of WI required her to quarantine at our house for 10 days and we hosted a few visits by a state inspector. There are concerns about bringing transmittable diseases into the state so it was handled carefully. After quarantine, Wendy suffered a series of life threatening health issues. During her spay surgery in China, the surgeon had accidentally closed off her ureter causing her kidney to fail, she contracted a tick borne illness that could not be identified and she had a severe heart murmur. The rescue supported us and Wendy during this time. She had several emergency visits and a major surgery. We just couldn't let her leave our family so we adopted her. We've had her for 4 years and she is is our angel. She's been through a lot, but you just can't tell. She is a loving, spoiled Golden Retriever. She is approximately 12 years old so she is now starting to slow down. Her second kidney is starting to fail and arthritis is taking hold. We will love her for every day she has left and admire her strength to forgive and live every day to to the fullest. Happy National Dog Day to the princess in our house Wendy.
