November is a time to raise awareness for an important cause that affects millions of people each year: Diabetes. ? Diabetes is very common. About 1 in 10 Americans are living with diabetes which equates to more than 38 million people. More than 1 in 3 adults, or 98 million people, have prediabetes. Type 2 diabetes, which accounts for up to 95% of diabetes diagnosis’, is a condition that happens when your body has persistently high blood sugar levels. This can be caused by many lifestyle factors, including being overweight or not being physically active. ? Diabetes and prediabetes can go undetected. Around 20% of people who are diabetic and 80% of people who are prediabetic don’t know they have it. Type 2 diabetes is often preventable.
