Huge shout-out to Nicole Smith, a long-time #TeamGOJO member and a leader in our R&D, along with her co-authors, for noteworthy work in advancing hand hygiene science. Their research, "Importance of Dosing: Analysis of Touch-Free Hand Hygiene Dispensers for Consistency," was just published in the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC). This must-read work highlights a critical factor in hand hygiene: not all dispensers deliver the same dose every time—and that impacts efficacy. Findings show that pump design, dispenser engineering, and even time delays between uses affect output volume, meaning facilities should prioritize consistent dosing to ensure proper pathogen reduction—or risk users not receiving a meainingful amount. It took hard work and dedication to bring this research from inception, to a 2023 IDWeek poster presentation, to a published article.
