关于我们
Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta is the preeminent non-profit source for German language instruction, heritage, and cultural exposure in the southeastern United States. We deliver multi-level, Goethe-Institut accredited language courses and mission-centric programs that foster communication, education, collaboration, and cultural exchange. Our programs serve language learners at all levels for whom German is not their first language, natives of German-speaking countries, and people residing in the Southeastern United States who are interested in or affiliated with Germany or Europe through heritage, career, or personal experiences. We provide experiences that enhance learning and the development of personal and professional relationships. Unlike college and university environments, commercial language centers, exclusive online services, or networking groups, we combine immersive classroom and online learning with integrated authentic cultural programs, resulting in enriched learning opportunities, new relationships, and a greater sense of community.

A truly remarkable exhibition - a connector across continents, cultures and generations, it sheds light on the history of black and African Film, the hurdles the film faced, an opportunity for Francis Oladele to be recognized for the groundbreaking work he did 50+ years ago, and the solutions over decades that still draw ripples in and beyond Atlanta. "The power of filmmaking continues to be transformative." "Culture, black culture, plays a pivotal role in the growth and success of our city." We are grateful for the opportunity to work with the Mayor's Office of International & Immigrant Affairs - Welcoming Atlanta, the City of Atlanta - Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and Gallery 72, BRONZELENS ATLANTA FILM FESTIVAL INC and Deidre McDonald and Terri Vismale-Morris, the German Consulate General in Atlanta and Consul General Melanie Moltmann, the Nigerian Consulate General in Atlanta and Ambassador Auwalu Namadina, the Modern Film Archive in Berlin and Mareike Palmeira, Atlanta Sister Cities Commission and the representatives for Nürnberg and Lagos Dorothea Hockel LL.M. and Professor Augustine Esogbue, respectively. And we thank our Kultur Ensemble ATL partner Alliance Fran?aise Atlanta and the many voices and hands from speakers to organizers, interns to photographers that made it not just possible but deeply welcoming. The multinational collaborative project keeps on connecting! Visit the exhibition at Gallery 72 until April 4 and watch the original film 'Things Fall Apart' on March 12 at the Plaza Theatre on Ponce. #KulturEnsembleATL #germaninATL #GermaninAtlanta #GoetheATL
Thank you to all who joined us for the opening reception of the Things Fall Apart exhibition at Gallery 72! The exhibition showcases the long lost documents of the making of the film with a collection of still photo prints by accomplished cinematographer Stephen Goldblatt. Alongside the City of Atlanta - Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs and Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta, we welcomed over 100 guests who joined a panel discussion with Lanre Oladele, son of the filmmaker Francis Oladele, Mareike Palmeira from the Modern Film Archiv (Berlin), Nigerian filmmaker Robert O. Peters, ERIC BOMBA-IRE, Ivory Coast-born Ghanaian filmmaker based in Atlanta, Chair of the Nigeria-Atlanta Atlanta Sister Cities Commission Professor Augustine Esogbue, and moderated by Deidre McDonald from BronzeLens Film Festival. We appreciate our partnerships with the Consul Generals of Nigeria and Germany, Ambassador Auwalu Namadina and Consul General Melanie Moltmann, who provided welcome remarks and supported the event. Missed the opening? You can still view the gallery and artifacts from the film at Gallery 72, located at 72 Marietta St NW, until April 4, 2025!

It's Black History Month - that's why we are even more excited about the THINGS FALL APART exhibition and associated programming we are bringing to the ATL in February. "Things Fall Apart", the debut novel by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe, portrays the life of Okonkwo, a traditional influential leader of the fictional Igbo clan, Umuofia. He is a feared warrior and a local wrestling champion who opposes colonialism and the early Christian missionaries. Published in 1958 by William Heinemann Ltd, the novel gained critical acclaim and popularity and has been translated into fifty languages. Here is why we are so excited: Created in 1970 in Nigeria, little was known about the circumstances and the making of the film "Things Fall Apart" until the images were discovered in the estate of the late German film director Jason Pohland. The exhibition in Atlanta, a cross-cultural collaboration, showcases the long-lost documents of the making of the film with a collection of still photo prints by accomplished cinematographer Stephen Goldblatt. The film and the exhibition in ATL highlight the connection and struggle between Africa and the West, between generations and cultures, and also the story of Nigerian-Atlantan collaboration, the shaping of modern, global Atlanta and Sister Cities relationships, the Black film industry, African royalty, and ATL-local high-profile changemakers. The 1974 premiere of Things Fall Apart in Atlanta draws direct connections to the election of Maynard Jackson in the same year, as the Nigerian co-producer, legendary filmmaker Francis Oladele, was his brother-in-law. Moreover, the premiere was directly connected to the founding of the Mayor’s Office for Cultural Affairs and the establishment of the Atlanta-Lagos Sister City partnership, which both celebrated their 50th anniversary just recently. In Germany, the film premier triggered a series of official trips to five West African countries immediately afterward expressing the growing importance of German-African partnerships. In the US, the film premiered a full four years after production in Nigeria due to an apparent difficulty in finding a distributor for the film. Under the patronage of Maynard Jackson, the first African-American mayor of Atlanta, the African-American society attended the premiere in 1974. Stay tuned for the film screening and more! Thank you to the many collaborators to make this happen: City of Atlanta - Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs Mayor's Office of International & Immigrant Affairs - Welcoming Atlanta German Consulate General in Atlanta Modern Film Archives, Berlin BronzeLens Film Festival Atlanta and our #KulturEnsembleATL partner Alliance Fran?aise Atlanta #artexhibition #photographyexhibition #africanart #blackfilmmakers #exhibition_opening #sistercities #africanfilms #artexhibitionopening #things_fall_apart #blackfilmhistory
