The Global Open Air Quality Standards (GO AQS) initiative today announced its strong support for Rhode Island House Bill 5597, pertaining to Indoor Air Quality in Schools. GO AQS has signed onto a joint written testimony submitted to the Rhode Island House Committee on Education in advance of the bill's hearing this afternoon. We recently conducted a small, but insightful experiment. We compared a map highlighting countries where exposure to solid cooking fuels is a significant issue with the geographical distribution of visitors who read about GO AQS (Global Open Air Quality Standards) and sought to learn more about air quality. The results were telling. The map starkly illustrated the regions where reliance on solid fuels like wood, charcoal, and biomass for cooking persists. This practice leads to significant household air pollution, a major health concern. Interestingly, we observed a correlation between areas where information about air quality is less readily available and the continued prevalence of solid fuel use.
