Last week, I had the honor of hosting the Mexican Ambassador to the United States, Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, and his wife for lunch. We had a fantastic conversation about Go Global NC, and the incredible work our colleagues are doing throughout North Carolina. It truly takes a village to connect North Carolina with the world. We were delighted to host a delegation of leaders from Germany’s prestigious Atlantik-Brücke e.V. group last week – working to strengthening the transatlantic “bridge”. We kicked off our morning at the RTP Foundation with?Scott Levitan, CEO of the RTP Foundation; Paul Ulanch, Senior Director, NC Biotechnology Center, Adrian Percy,?Executive Director, NC Plant Science Initiative at NC State University; Mike Kaelin,?Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at RTI International; and Paul Rea,?Senior Vice President Agricultural Solutions North America BASF; and wrapped up our time with Deputy Chief of Staff to Speaker Tim Moore Dan Gurley, on a behind the scenes tour of the State Legislature; and closed with Chief Deputy Secretary of State Rodney Maddox speaking with the delegation at the Governor’s mansion.??

We join the international community in tribute to First Lady Rosalynn Carter, who was a friend and inspiration to Go Global NC. On a warm afternoon in 1979, Rosalynn Carter came to Raleigh to celebrate our very first citizen exchange. With enthusiasm and great cheer, she congratulated our group of 250 North Carolinians setting off for Newcastle, England, to experience another culture and build bonds of friendship between our two countries. Our founder, Millie Ravenel, and North Carolina First Lady Carolyn Hunt had the privilege of meeting Rosalynn Carter and joined her on stage to launch our work connecting North Carolina to the world. It was a challenge issued by then-President Jimmy Carter to states to develop citizen-to-citizen diplomacy efforts that led Gov. Jim Hunt to create the Center for International Understanding, now Go Global NC. Still today, we draw inspiration from Rosalynn Carter’s humble demeanor and powerful, open heart in our continued commitment to learn from each other.?
